RE: Harris buys a rally car
Discussion
Love that your building a e30 m into a rally car. If the funds where their Its exactly the kind of thing I would do. Living on the east coast of Canada these cars are quite rare and doing this to one would probably get me burned at the stake. But I happen to know where there are three red and two yellow m3 sit just waiting for somone to do somthing like this with them.
Since no one else has said it yet, I call dibs on the suicide seat for a couple of events.... have the experience and I promise not to scream!
Nice plans by the way, used to road rally with a couple of guys in a 325i of the same era and they always went well, a pukka M3 will be great on the stages.

me too, love it.and Chris, maybe for the same cost as rebuilding/upgrading that S14 you could fit the
M3 V8 engine, they are lighter even than the M inline 6 engine (I think) and shorter which is better for balance and will do a great job in such E30 M3 chassis, although a lot of work.

I think the s54/3.2 works really well in the e30. It's a simple install and you could always slot the s14 back in further down the line if you wanted to?
Much as I like the s14, the extra grunt of the s54 would come in handy on the stages. (cue the ''it's not an M3 without the s14 etc) You can get an s54 for £1500 and you'll have over 300 reliable bhp. Getting an s14 to make numbers like that will cost a hell of a lot more.

There is also the fact that a well built, nicely spec'd M3 running the original engine is worth good money, but one with a V8 stuffed in the front isn't.............
Lets face it, if you want to simply "go fast" for your money, Chris could have just bought a GpA scoob or Evo, (the M3 wouldn't see which way either one of those went on gravel) and driven that.

This looks to be an awesome project,
Bastos was in consideration when i built my e30, but i opted for motorsport.... kinda fancy a change now!!

Surely it depends what V8 it is and how it's been fitted? I take your point though and money seems to be the overriding factor when it comes e30 M3 nowadays, which is why it's nice that this car is being built to be used. This car runs a V8 but was built to a very high standard in order to compete.

This guy seems to be knowing what he is doing. No matter what it is an excellent read.

Good grief, I've just spent far far far too long reading that, to say that man is fastidious is an understatement!http://www.e30owners.com/forums/showthread.php?s=e...
Looking at Mr Harris' M3 I would expect there to be a similar amount of rot hiding away but fingers crossed...
I used to own an E30 M3 (when they were cheap & available), they really are brilliant to drive just a bit too slow by todays standards but 270bhp should put that right.
For the record I would recommend Mosley Motorsport, Mr Mosley eats/sleeps/breathes E30 M3's and he has an enviable collection of E30 M3 models in a glass case that you can look at after you've finished ogling the rest of the E30 p*rn in his workshop!

Firstly, there is only ONE choice for colours on your project and it's this IMO ^^^^^^. Classic M sport colours, the original and still the best.Secondly congratulations CH, this is IMO one of the best car related ideas you've ever had. Never mind all the too precious, never driven E30 M3's, get it out on a track\dirt road where it belongs!
