My little boy (6) is a trainee petrol head and he asked me just now are there any cars with the steering wheel in the middle. I could think of the maclaren F1 and that was pretty much it!
So aside from single seaters obviously are there any road going cars with the wheel in the middle?
Over to you.....
I had a vague recollection of a Matra from the '70s which had 3 seats abreast but not sure where the wheel is.

I'll drag this up from the depths as I was going to ask the same question having just watched the chasing classic cars on the ferrari 365 p2 tre posti.
That is quite some car but at nearly 20million dollars it should be

I thought of the matra too but whilst it has 3 seats the wheel is (mainly) lhd unless there were rhd versions made.

Actually the tre posti didn't sell for 23.5 million dollars - not enough apparently!

There's the Renault Twizzy, which certainly isn't a performance car but has two seats one behind the other.
I've never driven one, but apparently they are quite fun to chuck around on a twisty road.

The McLaren BP23 will have the steering wheel in the middle, and there are pictures of a Porsche Cabriolet with one in the middle too

The Matra Murena had 3 seats abreast but the wheel wasn't in the middle

Didn't the original Lotus Exige cup race cars have a central steering wheel?? Not sure if any were made for the road though

The Motorsport Elise had one, not sure how many were made into road variants though.

The Mini Marcos was originally going to have its steering wheel in the middle. And a trapezoidal lozengey seating layout.
