RE: Nissan 370Z NISMO: Review

Seems like a missed opportunity, and too dear.
Every review of the 370Z seems to criticise the engine coarseness at high revs, really can't understand why this needs to be the case, surely this type of engine configuration should be smooth and peachy all the way to the red line.
I haven't found these reviews, but I drove one a basic 370Z a year or so ago. The engine, ultimately, was inexcusable. I don't remember anything else about it - I had decided from the first trip to the red line that the Boxster was worth every penny more. The performance is pointless - because it's so nasty to extract. You'd think so, but the 350Z and 370Z seem to have been cursed with particularly tuneless engines.Every review of the 370Z seems to criticise the engine coarseness at high revs, really can't understand why this needs to be the case, surely this type of engine configuration should be smooth and peachy all the way to the red line.

Mine sounded tremendous, with only an induction kit, so naturally I disagree. Especially with the roof down. This was mine, did a longer one but this one has the highlights.

'Nissan expects the new model to make up 25-30 per cent of 370z sales going forward' as opposed to 'going backwards' what the hell is that supposed to mean. The world is indeed full of pointless marketing B S.
Yes I need a holiday!
Great car though, they sound so muscular and old school, I suspect the MPG puts many off.
Hairdresser and badge snobs need not apply.

Does this version auto-blip on the downshift? Hoping it doesn't.
Yes, but you can switch Synchro Mesh off. Agree about the trashiness of the engine at higher revs but I was told this was down to the engine's valve design(?)Feels nice and snug inside but needs to be more rewarding to drive.

How much extra for them to paint the bodykit..?
I really like the zed; gonna buy one and strip it out one day... get rid of some of that fat.
Interesting what the article stated about the exhaust note and early 370z's sounding better- any owners able to comment on that?
I'm an owner of a 2013 model and the exhaust note is absolutely pathetic as standard.I really like the zed; gonna buy one and strip it out one day... get rid of some of that fat.

Doesn't suit the car at all and is actually quite embarassing (people look when you get in and expect a nice big roar on start up but are presented with a 1.2 petrol corsa soundtrack).
Even going to redline with stock exhaust sounds like a small hatchback, sounds like this hasn't improved any with the Nismo.
Think you'd be better off spending the £10k difference modifying the base model (could get S/C, Turbo or some lovely N/A upgrades and keep the change).

I always loved the looks of this car, and this version looks fantastic. There's a Nismo 350Z in black up the road to me and I think it's a very cool looking thing... must admit a £5,000 premium would be more suiting though.
I agree, but if the standard car was £32,000 (which I believe would still be reasonable) and they bumped that up £5,000 no one would bat an eyelid, the standard car is almost too cheap.exceed said:

I get the impression that Nissan has used exactly the same engine from their Infinity Saloon and stuck it in the 370Z! You'd think with their resources that a bit of tuning or product differentiation (which VAG do very well) would have made it past the Renault bean-counters?Doesn't suit the car at all and is actually quite embarassing (people look when you get in and expect a nice big roar on start up but are presented with a 1.2 petrol corsa soundtrack).

I have a 2012 roadster and it has been a difficult car to warm to, mainly on account of the engine sound. I've stuck an Akrapovic exhaust on and it has improved things considerably but it's still not up to par for a purpose built sports car. I don't think all the other criticisms are warranted considering how much cheaper than a boxster it is.
I don't really have a problem with the engine note. It needs to be louder for sure.
There's a guy with a white Lamborghini gallardo near me and when he drives past its silent. I'm honestly not exaggerating. In comparison I have a pal with a Ferrari 430 spyder which sounds like an F1 car on tick over.
In my experience the 370z sounds a bit pants in the cabin but decent outside.
There are plenty of YouTube clips of the sound

This ones before and after HFC fitted.

The engine can be revved alright. My last car was an S2000 so I know how to rev an engine. At about 5k revs this thing sounds (in cabin) a bit coarse but after 5k it disperses and pulls strong up to red line.
Don't know what the comment was about early 370z not being affected. They are all exactly same spec.
I like the nismo but its not enough to tempt me into one.
