RE: Shed Of The Week: Mazda Xedos 9 Miller
Discussion
Lovely shed, they certainly look a lot nicer than the boxy, now very dated rivals of the time.
I always wanted one, but after owning two Xedos 6's and worrying about the rust and tappety engine (despite following the flush procedures and using the right oil), I declared Mazda to be substandard in many aspects, and changed allegiance to Toyota.

Interesting car. I think the Xedos 6 did fairly well on the back of its pert looks, looks that didn't unfortunately transfer to the larger 9 - it was a bit unresolved and bland for it.
Shame, as this Miller-cycle car was at least an attempt to do something different. Hats off to Mazda, they do (did? ) like their niche engine technologies.
As a shed though, somehow quite compelling. For those comparing to a 328 I'd say I doubt it would feel slower on the road.

I had wondered how long it would take for a comparison to a 3er or 5er and wasn't left waiting long ...
People need to realise that there is life outside BMW lol
The Xedos 'brand' was aimed squarely at BMW and Mercedes, hoping to steal their loyal following.People need to realise that there is life outside BMW lol
The problem was, the Xedos (6 and 9) price tag was very similar (may have been more expensive?) and people just laughed. The fact was however, you got an awful lot more car for your money, but people couldn't see beyond the badge, and turned their noses up. That's good for Shedders because it means you get a nice looking, well spec'ed car for pennies now.

Always liked how interesting the Miller cycle engine in these was but I've never seen one for sale. Very nice colour combo too.
Top shed!
ps. Didn't Nissan use a Miller cycle engine in the K12 or K13 Micra?
Not sure about Nissan, but Lexus and Toyota use them in their hybrids iirc. They must work well with electric motors.Top shed!

I watched a video on youtube last night which showed a supercharged Buick Regal, pretty much the same car as the Mazda, and the owner swapped the original supercharger for a much bigger one and now makes more power then a C class AMG. Left the exterior completely standard and out sprints Mustangs, Camaro's etc. This Mazda is a sleeper in waiting.

I quite like that!
I've always had a soft spot for the Xedos 6/9 because of this one;

The rhubarb and custard BTCC car! Always liked the Xedos cars, the 6 more than the 9. This supercharged version is new to me too though . Good shedding. Shame the Xedos brand never went any further.
