I find it bizarre that you'd launch a brand no-one can pronounce...

It's a bit like when Ford did the Ka - you'd go into the dealer and ask about a Ka and they'd look at you funny - or when I got a courtesy car they said "would you prefer a Fiesta or a Ka - and that's the kay-ayy and not a car"

Our local Mazda dealer used to call to talk about the 'kur say dos' which I'm pretty sure is wrong in any event (X is the Greek letter Chi which you pronounce Ki or Kai so it would be a Ki-dos if it were Greek) - in Chinese X is 'Shi' (so that Wuxi motorbike is a Whooshy and this would be a Shi-dos) - the americans have their 'zee' (Xerox so Zee-dos) but I suspect they were being cleverarses and it's an X-edos (exodus - as someone already Bob Marley'd)

Seriously tho - there's no point in giving something a name no-one can pronounce - tho there were other reasons it didn't take-off I'm sure!!

I've driven a couple of 6's and I quite liked them - they were a proper junior Jag in their day, smooth and comfy etc. - better than the X-Type ever was and probably related to it somehow via the Mondeo? smile

I always liked the Xedos 6 and 9, very good-looking cars in my opinion and a leftfield choice when new. The Miller engine just adds a nice touch of alternative-appeal too. Good shed.
Ditto. I had a Xedos6 for around seven years and covered 155K miles without a hitch - that's until some toe rag in Bristol decided to break in and steal it. Didn't get past the immobilizer but did so much damage the car was scrapped.

The engine was a sweet as a nut - you could barely hear it running with the bonnet open. Dynamically, obviously not as good as a 3-series but being so rare always turned heads - it was a really nice coral grey colour that took on a purple tinge in certain lights - fond memories.

Like it. 6 was very desirable in the day. Surprised it didnt become a big player. I always thought it looked like a baby jag. The 9 wasnt as cute but this is very interesting and i never heard of this version.
Cool shed indeed. Can you compare a Bluebird 1.6Lx to this?

I had one for 10 years - never went wrong, no bangs or bump from the suspension even at 150,000 miles. I think it used about 1/4 litre of oil every 6,000 miles, and was a comfy cruiser. I think it was really understated, which is a shame. Jag in Cov had a few which they tore down to do quality comparisons for the forthcoming S and X types.
It was good for other things as well but thats another story

I had wondered how long it would take for a comparison to a 3er or 5er and wasn't left waiting long ...

People need to realise that there is life outside BMW lol

Rare but not my cup of tea - appreciate the education lesson - never even knew a supercharged version existed

That's Patrick Watts in the works' BTCC saloon. A very interesting guy. He runs a massive recycling concern in Kent these days and has raced a succession of interesting cars. Not sure what sort of motorsport he is involved in these days though.
I think he has been off classic rallying for the past few years but he is back on circuit now and has just got one of the old Rover Group A Metro turbo's out.

Patrick also won a touring car race in the rain in a Fiat Uno turbo! (I think). Great driver.

Yeah, definitely not boring in the engine department. Styling a bit boring though. I wonder what the ride/handling is like? They sold these as Eunos something or other in Australia when I lived there, but I never ever saw one in the metal. Wonder how many were made.

Nice to see something different this week other than old VAG cars, or knackered Bluebirds. However for me, the Mazda Xedos 6 is a much nicer car. This one seems very slow and thirsty for the quoted power. If I was having an old Mazda would be either a Xedos 6, or the rare but classy 323F 2.0 v6, which had a lovely jewel of an engine.

It mentions a bit about it in the last page of that test above

Mazda never really pushed Xedos in the UK, so no wonder the cars disappeared with barely a ripple.

Best looker was definitely the 6, but the 9 made a decent alternative if you needed more room inside.

Sorry what? Never heard of a zeedos - which car is it you want four candles for again?

A kee-dos? Nope, not heard of one of those either - you'll have to speak-up, this is a noisy line I think - I mean most people say "Ford" or "BMW" - I'm not sure why we're talking about Greek Gods when you need a lightbulb??

Back in the mid/late nineties I found myself out on a weekender with some mates in Paris. We got ourselves transported by a guy who had a 9 Miller as a company car. I thought it was fabulous. I am surprised at the lowly performance figures - it struck me as a very fast car at the time.

Great article - brought back some pretty interesting memories. Thanks

The in-gear figures seem pretty respectable if you read the Autocar figures and comments in the performance section.

Seems like a very likeable left-field barge to me, but then I do have an irrational penchant for anonymous far eastern saloon cars paperbag

True, they even stuck a supercharger on a DIESEL!!

I think it was either the 626 or Xedos 6 (cant remember). I actually cant think of a worse application for a supercharger, considering that diesels work with turbocharging so well

It always answers peoples question though when they ask "is there a supercharged diesel?"

Great SOTW though, not that I was particularly upset with last weeks Nissan, but at least this weeks shed has a talking point about it
