Hi all, looking for a little advice or opinions.

I have just purchased a car from Republic of Ireland, it's taxed to Oct 2013 with the ROI and NCT ran out in March 2013. However, with the car I was given a cert to say car failed emissions only and I was told that according to the NCT centre that the car was ok to be driven until the NCT was rebooked. I tend to believe the person who told me this and sold me the car as it was my granny wink As I am sure most of you know I now have to MOT the car in the North and re-register for Northern plates.

I had an MOT on Friday and it being my luck she passed emissions and failed on a front suspension spring, hit a god damn ramp!! I can get her in for retest but obviously it will take a little time to get the spring fitted and I cannot rebook online due to having to book under the chassis number. The question is, because I am on southern plates and taxed to the south am I ok to drive the car until retest? I am doing everything else by the book. I have insurance, all the required forms. To be honest I have only passed my test and am even displaying R plates, even though R plates are not required to the south and therefore I am sticking out like a sore thumb with the southern plates and a dirty red R on the car.

Whats the general consensus here? Any help would be great!! Cheers

Id have said you know its failed so it shouldn't be driven. If in doubt don't do it! Plus driving a car with a snapped spring isn't the cleverest thing to do - personally I wouldn't risk it smile

I understand that but surely I am ok to drive to the mechanics? It's all a very grey area for me to be honest.
