Completely depends on your target time and definition of cheap.

Was recently discussed.

A Scooby / Evo are no where near the best cars

4WD isn't a help considering it's weight, power wastage and the fact with decent tyres / power the front wheels are barely touching the floor

I'd be looking at something huge, powerful and heavy, such as a Merc 600 or similar, and then removing all those weighty items like electric seats, carpets, window motors, etc. Probably go like a rocket when stripped bare.

Stripped 200sx/r33 skyline with a ropey body and a good bit of engine work done.

Can't see too much cheaper.

90's Camaro with a ls1 would also be cheap to mod and get really big power out of.

If you don't set a budget, there can be no real comparison.

Already has uprated turbos apparantly.

Faster than a Mr2 i reckon.

MR2 Turbos frequently post the fastest 0-60 foot times as they're so easy to launch with all the weight over the rear. Standard they can cover the 1/4 mile in 13.5 seconds in the right hands.

Best Motoring pitted the MR2 Turbo against a number of rivals over the 1/4 mile

I've owned standard Mr2 turbo's, RX-7's (turbo ll and fd3's) and 300zx twin turbo's, the MR2 was the slowest though.

They're all easy to mod by decatting, increasing boost and a remap to chuck in more fuel.

I modded all of them and ran them at 1 bar of boost, the MR2 was still the slowest though. The RX-7 and 300zx were quite ferocious at 1 bar (some people go higher but that requires much more time and money - 1 bar is simple) and the standing 1/4 mile time was 120 @ 13 secs on the 300zx (short wheel base model) and 13.5 on the RX-7. But the RX-7 was the most fun, handled like a go cart and stopped on a sixpence smile
