RE: Pure Driving Experiences: Crickhowell
Discussion
Growing up in the area this was my driving stomping ground for many years. Fond memories of sliding 205, 309, golf GTi's around these great roads. Th climb up to Ebbw vale in the snow is particularly wonderful. Seen may a road test over the years here and the Bear hotel in Crick is a fine drinking/eating establishment.

Well, that video is infinitely better than the first one. For a start, the car matches the road.
The only problem for me now is that I was all set to get a 2006 Mini Works GP, but after watching this I'm wondering whether I should try a Megane 250 instead?
A complete no brainer in my eyes. Heck, I'd even say a Clio 200 over the Mini is a no brainer! The only problem for me now is that I was all set to get a 2006 Mini Works GP, but after watching this I'm wondering whether I should try a Megane 250 instead?
Get yourself in a Megane 250 Cup, or a Megane 250 with the cup chassis and you'll probably wonder why you ever considered the Mini
By chance drove this stretch earlier today driving back from Cardiff and always fun to play 'what will the grazing sheep do next', a road to impress every time. As a bonus, spotted a Citroen Visa GTI going the other way, rare in their day and probably only a few left in the country now.

Better than the last one and slightly less ham fisted references to tyres and pure driving experiences this time around. If they could get the engine sound synced up with what the car is doing next time they might have it cracked! Great looking road though and not far from the parents in law...

I love the praise for the meg, 265 is next up for me.
Anyone notice in the vid that was the basic version, no cup chassis so softer springs/dampers and no LSD yet he still praises the amount of traction!
I believe the non-cup is the only version that comes with Dunlops Anyone notice in the vid that was the basic version, no cup chassis so softer springs/dampers and no LSD yet he still praises the amount of traction!
(The cup comes with Michelin PS2s and the 19s come with Bridgestones. I can't find anything to say what tyres come on the non-cup, but from memory they're Dunlops.)

Totally agree - should have taken the Megane up Hardknott Pass and hammered the Merc through Wales. Maybe the next one will be taking a Smart across Snake Pass, or squeezing an Aventador up Rosedale Chimney Bank?!
Nice Camera work though.

I test drove an R56 Cooper S, then test drove a Clio 182 Cup and Trophy (never mind a Clio 200 or Megane 250) needless to say I bought the Trophy! I was full of it about getting a Cooper S and within 10 minutes I was the biggest Renaultsport fan in the world. It made the Cooper S feel like an MPV.
A Megane 250/265 cup will be my next purchase, such a lot of car for the money.
You may prefer the Mini, its all subjective after all but if you don't at least give a Megane a test drive you are cheating yourself!
Added this stretch to the Wales road trip next month, if anyones game?

Slightly OT but what life are you getting out of your tyres?
Depends on the driving really.Without any trackdays, I get about 8k per set of fronts (Then I move the back onto the front and wear those out). I'm using Goodyear F1 Assy2s now as I prefer them, the standard PS2s should last a little longer. I think that's pretty decent for a hot hatch to be honest. I did no better with my Fiesta ST before.
On trackdays you can easily take off 2mm in a day so they'll wear very quickly. I had to buy 4 new PS2's after 6.5k including 3 trackdays (though from memory, 2 of those were wet! - so your mileage may vary!).

I'm getting about 9k - 10k on the fronts maybe double that on the back so not that much different from you I guess.Without any trackdays, I get about 8k per set of fronts (Then I move the back onto the front and wear those out).
