I noticed the three series GT also has an active rear spoiler

There's something about active spoilers that I just love, and the original (Thema 8.32) is still my favourite
Original? The Alfa 90 had an active front spoiler 2 years before the 8.32 appeared.Although being on an Alfa it would have been mostly inactive.

Even worse than the 5 Series GT.....
I agree it's a pretty ugly car, but that's just being silly. I followed a Cooper S coupe this week, on the lanes of Cheshire. Anything over mid 30's to low 40's and up came the spoiler the size of a fag packet, pinning the car to the road, to be honest, I was scared that my 2 tonne pickup truck doing the same speed without this aerodynamic wonder was going to throw me into the fields.
My my do you KNOW how silly you look ?

Spoilers - my Premier League pet hate: where did it all begin? IIRC it was with the Escort XR3 and as previous respondents have indicated they have been stuck on just about everything else since and in some instances manufacturers have managed to single out the UK market for the full spoiler and revenue-generating treatment on specific models as standard equipment at least on the top of the range model, and not fitted to the same car for other markets (used to apply to Toyota Camry as an example).
Seems to me that the fitment of a spoiler on a regular road car, even some high performance vehicles, is an admission of failure to get the aerodynamics of the body shape right in the first place.... I am privileged to own an Alfa Romeo Giulia Super which was wrapped in a carefully-developed aerodynamic body 50 years ago with all airflow requirements integrated into the panelwork, notably the fluting along the waistline and roof, the subtle spoiler above the rear window and the concave rear panel. In the rain airflow over the curvaceous windscreen renders the wipers redundant above 70mph.....

That isn't just a diffuser! It's an F1 style exhaust blown diffuser! I quite like the look of them, much more so that whacking a spoiler on the back. Contrary to the press release, I don't recall the Clio 200 having a flat bottom to accompany? The Elise does and if I recall it reduces lift slightly but that's about it.
Oh dear I presumed it was only mobile-phone-cover salesmen that drove their TTs around town with the spoiler up, but now A7 drivers are doing it too?
That's bad.
A uni friend of mine got upgraded at Stansted to a Peugeot RCZ last week. Sure enough when I saw it parked outside the house I had to tell him he too had left the spoiler up. After I reminded him the car was not travelling fast enough when parked, I told him to go and put it down before he was allowed in to drink beer.

A wing on a proper sports car is one thing but why would an A7 need a spoiler? Answer, because the aerodynamics is shyte in the first place.... They look stupid and increase drag, which reduces Vmax and also reduces the fuel efficiency when cruising on the motorway. Just design it properly in the first place
