There's something about active spoilers that I just love, and the original (Thema 8.32) is still my favourite

However, I'm very glad they didn't fit one to these:

Have you seen the motorized one on the Omega EVO 500s Leins?

The old Touring Cars gave rise to a few good ones

That's a superb colour. I've never seen it before and I used to work for BMW! Whats it called?

Some of the cars above look sh##e and some look wonderful. I can't imagine the 190 Evo without its spoiler/wing whereas the Alfa just looks daft. Some of the best integrated wings have to be the F40 and the Honda NSX. The Noble suited the wing as the whole thing was overdone with arches etc.
What gets me is why manufacturers put these on cars which are destined to spend their lives ferrying kids and shopping around, never seeing a track.
I still think that the lip on mg MX-3 is superb. A pic will follow!

Always thought the spoiler on my S15 was a bit odd. I kinda like it though (this is the standard Nissan 'Aero' spoiler). Some owners remove the center post with the high-level brake light and convert it to a two-post spoiler; there is another high-level brake light on the back window anyway.

Unfortunately, whenever the car gets dirty, the dirt just runs down the 3 spoiler posts, leaving a nice triple line of road dirt all the way across the boot laugh

As far as active aero goes; I don't mind it on things with actual performance (I hate how the McLaren P1's wing looks, but I know it's like that for a reason). On cars like an Audi A7 though? Not so much.

...anybody mentioned the E46 M3 CSL? The whole rear section of the boot lid reprofiled to add downforce, elegant, simple and to the trained eye instantly denotes thats it's a CSL. Perfect

Some people actually drive fast enough to benefit from them, on the public road, day in, day out.

There is only one spoiler that can be left in the "fully extended" position imo, although, as it's old skool, you have to get out a socket set to do it:

;-)
What about the E30 M3 spoiler when fully extended?

cool

I didnt think that deep about these raised spoilers I do admit they do change or drastically alter the looks but am really not bothered much by it, admittedly some raised spoilers do look stranger than others but hey you can put it down after u down racing around the motorway.

I cut a big hole in the diffuser of my S3 so I could fit a towbar. I have noticed no difference, even at 150mph. I reckon it's a load of marketing bks.
Lol... That's not a diffuser! Or marketing bks... Audi have never claimed it to be so or provide any extra down force. It's pure decor, part of the rear valance... Same as on my TTS. Does the pop up add any down force? Audi claims it does but I don't have any thoughts about it or think it looks fantastic/adds pose value.
Some people have changed the pop up one for the fixed RS spoiler which I personally think looks terrible... Very max power.
Audi does say the fixed offers no advantage over the pop up spoiler.
Apart from that, this is the usual PH many pages about something that doesn't matter. If you think they are sh!te you're not going to buy a car with one eh wink simples.

He probably has better high speed stability now, as a result of the tow bar weight!

Spoilers for show, diffusers for a pro wink

For a diffuser to work don't you need a ground effects kit that can seal/separate the air underneath the car from the air going around the car and a fully sealed undercarriage that directs/funnels the air to the diffuser. It needs both to work properly. As far "diffusers" on road cars most are only mouldings on a bumper to simulate a diffuser.

And to respond to "spoilers". Aren't most road car aero focused on cutting lift if anything? I'd say 75% of all "aero" on road cars are marketing/design gimmicks, 10% zero-lift/drag-reducing, and 5% actual functional downforce producing aero kits.

Eh no re how diffusers work... I'm no expert at all but I watch a lot of F1, back in the day when Lotus, McLaren and Williams were winning everything and ground effects were at the height... Side skirts, brushes, that as you say 'sealed' or fully enclose the passage of air under the car to funnel the air under the car to the diffuser were used.
Side skirts were band to reduce down force and slow the cars down... F1 cars still have diffusers but no side skirts, they still generate plenty of down force, probably more than in the early years!
I realise F1 is more extreme to a road car of course but it's easy with no knowledge to just dismiss almost anything we chose not to believe as marketing BS...

I know it's not a real diffuser.... try reading all my posts in this thread explaining how they don't work. Obviously if it was a real diffuser I'd have felt some difference after I cut a hole in it.

Also if you would read what I put, I said the Renault press release that was quoted before was 'marketing bks'.

George... Chill fella, I know what you wrote and your were referring to the Renault diffuser. Is it life or death, (someone will be thinking 'it's more important than that'). Does it all really matter?
