having been looking at these myself (not for right now due to starting a new business but within the next 18months) How about throwing a spanner in the works and saying a TVR of some sort? I cant stop looking at S's or a Chim smile

but i suppose you may not want that everyday smile But just an idea.

I think I am inclined to go 3.0Si over Z4M too due to extra running costs. Funnily enough purchase price wise there isn't that much difference (if looking at 3.0's with under 70k miles) between the two.

Loved my old Z4 3.0, now replaced with an E46 M3 SMG coincidentally.

I had the satnav and while it wasn't as good as the latest models, it was perfectly useable and got us down to Hungary and back with no issues. The other option I'd recommend is heated seats which are a real bonus if you like taking the top down during the winter.

Like I said, very similar prices...yes the Z4M is a grand maybe 2 more but that isnt THAT much in the grand scheme of things.

That is gorgeous! That is basically the car I'm looking for, in that colour and with CSL's. How much roughly are the mod's you mention?

I think my mind is made up, the jump from the VW bora 1.4 to a Z4 3.0Si will be more than enough for me, leaving the M models for when (if ever) I get bored of the Z4.

Ive had mine for just over 3 years. Apart from the rear springs going and the hood its been faultless. I do mainly motorway miles where on most journeys i average approx 38-43mpg. Performance is adequate but it's not the most comfiest car by any means.

off the top of my head;

exhaust was £800 (other makes are available, and loads of guys on z4-forum have them fabricated)
CSL's were 900 with rubber
gruppeM I found a second hand for 350.
carbon leather eBay 350. it's pretty rare
eibach springs 120
strut brace 250
poly bushes 90
mounts 60
brakes 400
carbon badges 50
cruise control 57
stubby aerial 10
aux lead 20
hardtop 1000

Fair play, that's a fair bit to spend! It does look stunning though. For me think just an exhaust and intake would be enough for now (plus stubby aerial).

I'd save a load of money and buy an older M54 powered one. Despite the 30bhp difference there isnt much in it performance wise (Most of the extra power is right at the top end) but the older ones are considerably cheaper for fundamentally exactly the same experience.

Plus you kinda get the impression with the Z4 that the original car was how it was intended to look - with lights that fitted with the lines of the car etc - but then the facelift was change for change sake, which ends up not looking quite right.

Had my 54 plate 3.0i for about 4 years now. In that time it has needed one rear spring replacing. No other problems at all. It is garaged though which greatly extrends the roof motor life I think.

I have been eyeing up a z4m recently too but have decided no stay where I am. Only a few k more to buy but for me it was the ongoing running costs that put me off.

Insurance was going to be an extra £300, road tax and extra £200, fuel + approx 30% and the servicing is about double too.

Mods wise, loose the RFT, lose the CDV and pop some foam out of the soung generator. 3 simple things that really change the car more than you could imagine.

get an M54 powered one. the power is plenty enough to have fun and not kill yourself.

remove the sound generator foam, get an exhaust made, buy the wheels you want and spend the rest on petrol

Thanks for the advice.

Ony reason for SI is id like something a bit newer than my 05 bora, so 06/07 and thats where the si engine came in so i thought may as well? But i'll just have to see whats on the market when i come to buy.

So now looking for:
Cruise control, bluetooth, sat nav (if poss), heated seats, xenons - think these are the minimum spec i'd want.

the sat nav is terrible. I'd still buy an early model and spend the other 3/4k on mods and toys

Noted, cheers chris. You're probably right, just thought id brightens up the dash a bit and makes it more modern.

Cant wait to get my house purchase out the way and get z4 hunting!

It does on an E46 or an E39 but on the Z4 it's a popup screen so hides away - the actual dash is exactly the same.

im looking at Z4 3.0 si coupes at the moment, allot of performance and rare car for the money. Even seem to be pretty frugal for commuting to work up and down the M1. Just wish it was a 2+2.
