Very impressed with that fiesta st. Could well be changing the wife's 500 abarth for one later in the year, tho she wants a 595 abarth.

Some test drives on the cards.....

I know the 'Aston Martin' front end is a bit challenging for some people, but IMO, the Fiesta is one of the best looking cars on sale at the moment.
Yeah ...... what is it with Ford that they have to plagiarise stuff from other car marques?

A 595 Abarth is fine for 2 people (in which case, envy not get a proper 2 seater?) but the Fiesta beats into a cocked hat space-wise.
It's like comparing a 1/2 glass with one if those monster 'Munich Beer Vestival' jobbies...
And I think, and its just my opine, that the Fiesta would be the more satisfying steer.

I do like the 500's exhaust note though. Was following a Essesse the other day and thought it sounded comical (but in a good way) Whats the fiesta sound like?

Mountune puts the Focus back in the running. As per the mega hot hatch test in AB Sports Cars mag:

The meg came out on top,due to it's handling, over 2 secs a lap quicker than any other car tested.
They also dynoed the cars as well for some interesting results.

Rated Lap time Engine power 0-100km/h 0-160km/h 0-200 km/h
1. Meg. 1:42,36 271 ps, 350 nm 6.2/13.8/23.1
2. Focus 1:44,48 250 ps 370 nm 6.3/15.0/24.3
3. VW 1:44,75 236 ps 367 nm 6.3/14.7/23.9
4. 3 MPS 1:45,47 262 ps 388 nm 6.5/14.8/24.2
5. A250 1:45,06 214 ps 356 nm 6.5/16.1/27.4
6. GT86 1: 49,86 187 ps 205 nm 7.4/18.2/33.2
7. 125i 1: 48,11 218 ps 317 nm 6.1/15.7/27.7
8. V40 T5 1. 48.43 245 ps 381 nm 6.5/15.1/25.

Puts the focus (mountune ed.) 2nd fastest in outright speed it seems - just want to see tracktimes now!

I've got my Fiesta booked in for the upgrade next week.

Just spoken to my insurance company and it's costing an additional £83 on to my policy as a 23 year old, which is less than I was expecting. I can't wait to see what it's like!

I get what you say but then if we didnt care about laptimes/bhp/0-100's - what would be the point in mountune upgrades?

They are there for more power, if you didnt want to go quicker, whats the point buying it?

Is like if the fiesta st was 20k and a better all round and faster car than a 30k vxr (for conversation sake) i'd buy the fiesta

How can that be right? 250PS is the cars standard output? So with Mountune you gain 0 BHP? Looks like a mistype to me as the Focus should have 275PS or close around.

Anyone seen any reviews comparing these two directly? Or should i wait for the video..?

I currently own a 2008 MK6 Fiesta ST and the natural upgrade is Focus ST. However, I cant ignore all the glowing reviews of the new Fiesta ST and the Mountune upgrade makes it even more appealing.

Simply down to personal preference?

Depends what you use the car for.

If you want the practicality of 5 doors with more boot room then the Focus is an obvious upgrade. I did find the boot space in the MK6 Fiesta a bit limiting, so a bigger car was my preference.

I bet it'll be a great drive though. I've only seen one so far, but I think they'll be a common sight soon, just as the MK6 STs are now.

Just got mine today and it's awesome, MPG isn't cracking though..!

Might be better when it's run in and I take it for a proper drive?

I was saying based on the new one's figures 6.4 and 14.0 0-100 its second quickest on that

And also, these are hot hatches- which are now much more powerful and quicker than they were 15 years ago. I had Clio Williams in the ninties and its 2.0 litre 150bhp engine was considered to be very powerful back then!

Ahh thats cool bud.

One thing I don't want is the mountune kit to detract from the non speedo quickness. I'll elaborate, some cars are ridiculously quick on a speedo, but don't feel that quick to drive. The ST to me just feels relentlessly quick even if not driving that
fast. Especially if you're not the one driving it.

Looking foward to see what it brings to the table.

Well done Ford. A masterclass in how to knock out a desirable and affordable product, add upgrade options and actually shift them out of the showroom.

I hear in that weird world of the Renault showroom, they won't even do a discount on the overpriced Clio 200 Turbo.
