I welcome the M4 purely because it'll bring down E92 M3 prices. Which is good for everyone (except current owners)
That is if the M4 is actually any good.I'm sure the upcoming M4 will perform rather well but like the M5 I fear it might be become as dull as dish water.
I hope i'm wrong but i'll admit i'm not that excited about the M4s arrival.
We shall wait and see.
It looks quite cool in M Sport trim, I actually prefer the front end to the 3 series coupe it replaces, not hard to beat, mind you.

I have literally never heard of this so called electic presentation arm.is it a new thing?
Nah it's not that new, I drove a 59 plate 320i coupe with it, only for a week though, but I never had any issues with it.Edited by Axionknight on Friday 19th July 22:56
There's something about BMW interiors that makes me feel extremely uncomfortable, it is a kind of claustrophobia caused by the central area of the dash, but I can't quite put my finger on it.
On that basis, Audi interiors are a million miles ahead of BMW for me.
As for the car overall, I think it is quite ugly and it has nowhere near the presence of the concept in photos, but I'd wait to see one in the flesh before completely disregarding it.

BMW interiors are so incredibly drab and flairless these days and that thing they name leather would pass for grit 700 at your local B&Q. On that basis, Audi interiors are a million miles ahead of BMW for me.

I think it looks good in an understated sort of way, but a shame if it is dull to drive.
The name change makes sense, yes it seems odd for now but I think BMW know what they are doing - the public will see '4' as more prestigious than '3', so BMW will be able to charge a premium for a car that probably costs no more to make than the equivalent 3 series.
Chris - this is a really well written article - the car has confused you, making it difficult to draw firm conclusions about it - which people expect. You have handled that dilemma really well!
So - is a gap opening up in the market for some really fun yet practical cars, as an antidote to the increasingly dull stuff from the 'premium' german brands? Perhaps Mercedes have started turning the corner with the A45AMG??
Honda and Subaru should have seen this coming, and now be jumping in to fill the void.
Cheers,
Jerry

For me the 4 series seems to be trying to take the company diesel "not big but not small" market that VAG have so successfully taken away from them.
It also looks too much like an Audi with a beamer front end for my liking.
But then I'm a po' boy and don't think I will ever be in the market for a new car in this (or any) price range.
