More useful in a long-door coupe, less so in a saloon.
+1My current car, an E250 Coupe, has these and they are excellent and useful. As there is no B-pillar, the seatbelt placement is a long way back and quite a reach (I am 6' tall and not fat). However, the E-class is much better implemented than the E92, as in the Mercedes' version the belt cannot slip off back to the B-pillar location - the belt is looped within it. Why BMW don't just add a loop to the arm and run the belt through it is beyond me.
I had a good close-up look at the 4 series M Sport at Goodwood and the one thing that struck me the second I saw it was how fooking large it was!
I really fail to see how a car that size can really live up to the hype
On the plus side, if you have a reasonably old family it's perfect; I could get in and out the back seats ok and there was enough head & leg room without needing to move the front seats (I'm 6'1" BTW).
You also got the feeling that you were 3 miles from the passenger when you sat in the drivers seat too, so ideal if you fall out with the missus

Tony the tiger time, these all look g-g-g-g-g-g-great ! In M Sport Spec pics with serious presence and poise. For me though the M3 4.0 L V8 change to a M4 Turbo V6 with only a 30 bhp power hike over the outgoing car and a possible 100 ft lb of torque will really change the personality of the car. So I will take a lot of convincing over the engine bay changes no matter how seductive the wrapping is. Cyrus1971 said:

I am in two minds about the swap tbh it is great having a lovely high revving N/A V8 but its thirst & because it only genuinely feels quick at 6k revs plus count against it, but with the change you will get more power/torque which is more usable in reality but with the added mpg gain. The only thing about the swap I am not to keen on is the artificial sound that will get pumped into the cabin, the best bit about the V8 is the induction noise it sounds delicious at high revs & that certainly can't be replicated.

I hope they make the M4 more aggressively styled, don't get me wrong, these looks good but still a bit un-inspiring. I'm not a big audi fan on the whole, but I think the treatment of the Audi RS4 Avant is brilliant.
The proportions are perfect, the flared wheel arches, lowered stance and the big wheels look the business.
The M4 could be awesome, or it could be a little bit too subtle and underwhelming.
As the engine, I find it hard to imagine with a car as important to the M range as this it won't be brilliant despite now being forced induction. Lets just hope they tune the sounds too and no engine sounds being pumped through the speakers

BMW interiors are so incredibly drab and flairless these days and that thing they name leather would pass for grit 700 at your local B&Q.
And what is Sir driving? Ah yes, I see.People in glass houses and all that.
Sat in this at Goodwood, I've got a F30 3 series already and this definitely felt MUCH better, the seating position felt nice and lowlight the seats hugging you nice and tight, the I drive system has been improved and the overall feel is a step above what i already own. I obviously didn't drive it but the first impressions are good.
Plus it looks the absolete nuts.
Don't forget, that car is only a "Sport" which is basically the old "SE" with a bit of Pierre Cardin trim splashed across the interior. The M-Sport which is the only one worth bothering with will be along soon. Have BMW ever made an interesting non m-sport car? (And yes, I don't submit many posts...)

There's something about BMW interiors that makes me feel extremely uncomfortable, it is a kind of claustrophobia caused by the central area of the dash, but I can't quite put my finger on it.
On that basis, Audi interiors are a million miles ahead of BMW for me.
As for the car overall, I think it is quite ugly and it has nowhere near the presence of the concept in photos, but I'd wait to see one in the flesh before completely disregarding it.

Actually, the car at Goodwood was an M Sport - not a Sport The colour is a bit of a giveaway too as Estoril is an M Sport only colour.
Had a quick look at the car on the BMW stand at Goodwood. Aesthetically it's a total cop-out. The slash behind the front wheels is apologetic and poorly executed. I thought the while car lacked visual tension. I'm sure it's a terrific ownership proposition but can't get on board with the visuals I'm afraid.
