Or just buy an 08-plate petrol one with the MPS engine for £7.5k. 256bhp out of the box. smile
And £500 a year in tax hehe
That's £300 or so a year more than the diesel for VED. Yet the diesel costs £7000 more to buy.

The diesel does 37MPG. The petrol 27MPG.

I'd much rather have the petrol!
Ignoring the fact that the diesel was only brought in on the new model (giving the bigger price difference) which is also supposed to be a lot better all round than the Mk1.

You really believe the petrol CX can get 27MPG aswell? Work collegue has a 6 MPS.......

Loads of torque = happy hooning. An older MPS would be preferable for me though.

I believe it's ecutek software they use for mapping the 2.2.So they will have to pay for the licence for each car
I had my 3 2.2 mapped in Nov by corten-miller and it does indeed fly running 25 psi..

The only thing dafter than that would be someone who bought said 25yo BBR tweaked turbocharged SUV 4x4 and then tried to restore it to it's original glory. hehe

I get over 30mpg in my tuned 6mps going to work and back. The wifes cx7 can get around 30 on a good motorway run and around 24mpg urban driving. Both cracking cars and look great.

My previous car was a 6 MPS and I also got 30MPG (on a good day).

I don't think there are many differences between the 'old' and 'new' CX-7 either? Same chassis, just a facelift?

I've been doing a bit more research on the engines and it seems the DPF issues (and there are plenty) are restricted solely to the 2.0 engine and that was completely superseded by the MXR-CD 2.2. The 2.2 doesn't seem to have the same problems. I'm looking at a 6 Estate 2.2 Sport 185PS, seems a good all round package as is usefully shorter than a Mondeo but has more boot space (I have a dog, 2 young kids and like to chuck my bike in the boot without taking the wheels off).

It would be interesting to hear from any owners of these and general ownership experience.

I'd be very interested to see what the mpg figures drop to when you run the 246bhp version, because if they benefit of running a diesel isn't decent economy, I'd rather get a petrol version thanks.

Well, the Stage 2 BBR work produces 112lb/ft more torque than the MPS 2.3 petrol engine, it will get higher mpg, whilst also costing less to tax and insure (the reduction in tax pays for the remap on its own). So I can't agree with you there. If you hate diesel for legitimate reasons like it's disgusting, smelly, smokey, noisy, doesn't allow revs, makes you look like a pipe and slippers old miser and is the stuff of the devil, then that's fine, of course.

As soon as my 2010 2.2 Sport 6 estate came out of warranty I had an 'economy' remap done by Black Code in Shrewsbury. 216 BHP and I cannot get below 46 in mixed and motorway driving. Mid range urge is very impressive.
Had the car from new and apart from the poor road noise refinement and relatively dull dash it's a cracker. You could land a 747 with the head lights and pop the windows with the Bose.

That's nice, surprised it didn't meet the reserve. 380 ft lbs in a Mazda 3 must be insane, that's more torque than a good number of supercar engines produce in a front wheel drive hatchback.

I was looking at the Megane 175 but the wife not liking them and another baby on the way killed that. I got a Mazda 6 in the end. The 185PS one. Absolutely loving it, doesn't really feel like it needs any more poke at the moment but I might still go for BBR's Stage 1 remap. My whippet wouldn't appreciate it very much though, I think I'll get him a Velcro coat.

Lot of problems with Mazda 2.0 diesels self-destructing over on Honest John. Don't know how long the 2.2 has been around but I'd want to know it's free of those issues before mapping it to the moon...

Nice cars though, but I think I'll keep driving my remapped Seat 1.9TDI (no DPF) for now....
