Lot of problems with Mazda 2.0 diesels self-destructing over on Honest John. Don't know how long the 2.2 has been around but I'd want to know it's free of those issues before mapping it to the moon...

Nice cars though, but I think I'll keep driving my remapped Seat 1.9TDI (no DPF) for now....
There are, I did lots of research and spoke to a few owners before buying the 2.2 engined one. The 2.2 (2.2 MZR-CD) is Mazda's own engine designed and built by themselves and now totally replaces the 2.0, which was a Mondeo unit.

I test drove the Mondeo with this engine (140bhp) and it was like a gutless laggy old tractor in comparison, the diesel clatter on start up was alarmingly loud and never really subsided and the power band was over before it started. Chassis was good though.

All diesels have their problems though, normally down to ancillaries like turbos or the particulate filters which clog due to only being driven on short journeys.
