RE: Bentley SUV - green light, go
Discussion
The Americans seem to be buying more cars?, we seem to be buying more SUV's (probably because wey're getting fatter too) and China and all ain't helping the manufacturers away from temptation. Lets hope its credentials make up for its lack of good aesthetics so Bentley can export and sell them and i hope that NO-ONE in blighty buys one so i don't have to ever set eyes on the titanic monstrosity
I wonder if this will make AM ever have a go at one? Seeing as Porsche did Er....No. At least i hope not.

Mehhh. It's ugly, but not a lot worse than a regular Bentley. Their angular shape and bluff front end means any SUV version isn't so far removed, aesthetically, from the saloon. this looks almost exactly like a jacked up Bentley "Shooting Brake" would turn out.
Not a looker, but a lot better than a Cayenne on the Standardized Automotive Munter Scale, at least to my eyes.

Bentley shouldn't be doing this; they should be building a dakar style version of whatever the next continental will be - assuming that version won't weight 3 tons. Raise the ride height by 12 inches and give it enormous tyres. They'd create something that had a stance more like the LM002 or original hummer - wide, low body sitting high up. A great, functional and purposeful look. Stop with this SUV rubbish because no one ever gets close to the look of the range rover (or sport).
Sadly, the world market adores these things. It can only be a matter of time before anyone building cars has one in their showroom. Look at Harry Metcalf's column in EVO for the numbers (This month or last, I forget)
Imagine if Pagani built one - bigger, more powerful and blingy-er than anything else. Maserati, Alfa, they'll all make their versions, some day. Caterham could reinvent the Mini Moke. And Lotus looking to save their business with a new Elise? I don't think so - best look at the Evoque and figure out how to make that market their own.

I gave it a 2 simply because..
It might not look quite as hideous when it is finally built but more importantly, you just know the residuals on this will drop through the floor and it won't be long before these will be snapped up for peanuts like the early Cayennes are currently selling for. Perfect for the unashamed pistonheader to have a fast wagon for a bit of green laning.
