I guess anything other than Magnolia upsets you both.

Indeed!

I saw this the other day and thought it was absolutely brilliant, it gave me goosebumps too. Just immerse yourself a little, imagine how it would feel to be at that circuit hearing that, exactly as it was two decades ago.. As close to being there and seeing the great man driving a great car as we'll ever get.

Class idea.

Gave me goosebumps too, fabulous tribute.

The 'making of' is well worth watching (turn on captions):

It didn't upset me, just thought it was rubbish.
Flashing lights and dubbed-on racing car sounds does not make for what was meant to be a 'Senna' video. I saw more of Stephen Hawkin in it than I did Ayrton Senna.

Presumably you like films with lots of explosions in them? Or visiting the arcade game area at the motorway services?
And magnolia is so 1995, darling.

When I saw the title I expected to see the driving god Senna, misleading doesn't come close, when I read the we are not worthy comments I expected Senna, is Senna [the real thing ] magnolia, because I like that and not some garbage with flashing lights and engine noises through speakers, perhaps im not clever enough to understand it, yes that must be it.rolleyes

Not being rude I hope, but there is no need to 'imagine' anything, as there are videos of Senna driving around Suzuka aplenty. Even Senna in-car videos are out there to watch. That is the closest you'll get to the real thing, because it is real footage of the real thing that really happened.

Senna did not go 'round' Suzuka as a flashing light and a speaker, did he?
He was a racing driver, not a DJ.

What next? The collision with Prost in 1989 re-enacted with Morris Dancers?

As I said in the post you quoted, "imagine being there at that circuit". For us sitting at home obviously it's nothing special and you are quite correct, Senna was not a DJ, thanks for clearing that up!

I meant for those sitting in the stands, actually experiencing that, it could if you closed your eyes have been spookily similar to the real deal. Which I think is awesome, and that is kind of as close as a live event can be to Senna driving his McLaren around a circuit.

What an odd attitude to have! Surely you understand that the point of doing this was for those there at the circuit? Of course you don't get the true effect on this video, but anyone with any imagination must be able to appreciate how eery and evocative this must have sounded? It's as close as anyone could come to going back in time and watching him drive a lap again.

Next you'll tell me there's no difference between listening to a band on your hifi and listening to them live along with 30,000 other people....

Blimey - it shocks me how emotionally limited some people are. Can't enjoy fiction because it is not true? Can't enjoy art that isn't realistic like a photo? Very worrying.

Great piece, nice concept.

They should have done the lap where the engine went silent at the chicane

What puzzles me is how people just swallow anything that is dished up, because it is 'connected' to Senna.

After watching the equally tedious 'making of' video, thinking maybe I'd missed something in the original film, I am still left cold and like I'd seen a poor 6th form project.

The video is there to watch. I shouldn't then have to imagine anything. Like sitting in the stands. Certainly not watching an imaginary F1 car going around a circuit at night, represented by a light and a speaker. Wouldn't the car get a puncture on the light or speaker? How would Senna see where to drive?

Why not just build a long Scalextric track, with a model car zooming around (at night) with a torch and a speaker on the roof?
And in the accompanying video show a garage door being opened, in slow-motion, and have a few technicians doing 'stuff' and looking at computer screens? Cor! Imagine that? No?

Art is subjective, but this ain't art.

However, I hear Honda are doing a similar 'event' representing Senna's 1988 pole lap of Monaco. This time they will use a seagull with an MP3 loudspeaker that has been trained to fly at night around the circuit.

I will be selling tickets for this event priced at only £3000.00 per person, and tickets are non-refundable. Places are limited, as this is a rare chance to see Senna lapping Monaco again.

Terms and conditions apply.

Thank you-now that is more like it.

I defy anyone with any 'imagination' to find the 'light 'n' speaker at night' video somewhat bland in comparison...

And this video actually features Senna. What more could you wish for in a Senna video?

That would be silly, a seagull wouldn't be fast enough.

Seeing as though this is Honda I would expect them to use a replica car with a robot driving using GPS to authentically replicate the lap. If Williams got on board and did the same you could recreate that old Monaco classic.

But then as you say that would also be boring as you could always watch the video anyway.
