Yes, that doesnt exactly swing my decision one way or another, think I need to try one of each.
Yes thats the best idea the z4 would be a safer car to drive which is good and like I say they do look very nice and bmws are always good to drive so both would equally great cars. Z4 will be more of a gt cruiser good luck on your purchase and let me know how you get nIm 6ft and a bit and I fit in with good headroom find it perfect for my height
I do love the gunmetal grey the best but found this and am very happy with colour.
You wont regret buying one they are very easy and safe to drive just be carefull in the wet on hard bends not to put your foot on the gas and it handles fine . Or slippery roundabouts can be twitchy in the wet but is part of the fun and doesnt have to happen . Alot of people say these can be hard to drive and is dangerous in the wet but if you know how to drive are totally fine

Very nice, I looked at one (a nice tidy number in a lovely gunmetal grey for about 5k) when I was looking at changing my car and the garage owner said he wouldn't be comfortable selling me it as I wouldn't fit in it (I'm only 6ft 2" and not exactly a lard arse either). I suspect he didn't want to give up his run-around.

His wife was driving the car home, having traded her 206 for it.
It was wet. She pulled away from some traffic lights, lost the back end and CRUNCH!
I'd really like to have one, although it would really need some child-friendly rear seats.

I loved the look of them and on paper thought they sounded perfect. Then I drove one and thought it a complete let down, it's main faults for me were a complete lack of feed back and far to high gearing. Gear it so it tops out at 130 and its be a far more fun car. I did once see one for sale advertised with a lower ratio diff fitted so I guess that can be fixed.

Same here - I wanted one for ages, but when I took one out for a test drive I hated the lack of low down power and the fact that you had to relinquish all mechanical sympathy to get the best out of it. The engine was screaming away at motorway speeds; not nice at all, for me anyway. Appreciate that they're popular, and they still look good, but I was really dissapointed!I've had a S2000, Z4 3.0 sport (231bhp) and a 986 Boxster S (265bhp)
They were all good in their own way, the S2000 felt by far the cheapest in build quality, roof noise, roof rips, critical to tyres/ geometry. Fantastic on cam Z4 too hard a ride, but smooth engine with plenty more low down grunt. The Boxster was probably my favourite if I had to pick another, with fantastic handling, it felt more solid/ planted, but had a very dated interior, and cost a bit more than the others I had.

I hope this doesn't come across as a Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt (FUD) scaremongering exercise and thought of not sharing this, but as I do make so much about driving standards elsewhere it may be inconsistent of me not to mention this:http://www.thisisdevon.co.uk/Tributes-happy-smilin...
Perhaps that confirms your thoughts on wet, 'hard' bends?
I can imagine women swooning over such a good looking young chap, I've heard good things about that company so he may have been all set on the job and career front and I am one of those that thinks S2000s are quite something, along with a friend that once lifted a rolled over Triumph soft top to find the driver underneath relatively uninjured and has driven a V12 E-Type, so it's not good to see a seriously mangled S2000.
I could so easily have become a statistic when I was younger, on a motorcycle or in a soft top 'sports' car, using that term loosely. Given the scrapes I got into then, I suspect if I'd had access to something like an S2000 back then things could have been much worse.
I think a pundit got an S2000 a bit twitchy on the road when reviewed on TV so some awareness may be useful. Drivers, conditions and vehicle defects and wear on components can vary so just take care a bit please. Accidents invariably have multiple contributory factors, all it needs is a bit of diesel on a roundabout or a nail leading to a partially deflated tyre.
There's a time and a place and all that stuff.

I ran a Z4 for 3 years. I had the 3.0 engine...
Had a remus catback and had been lowered on eibachs. It was a brilliant car and extremely practical and gave a consistent 32mpg+ on the motorway. I was surprised how much crap you could fit in the boot....
Another BMW will be on the list once kids get older....probably one of the newer 6 series coupes. BMW do make great cars..

No seats = nowhere for children to sit.
Some 2+2 cars may offer enough space for said small people.
An S2000 has no rear seats at all -no chance of me owning one (or an MX5)
Does that help at all with your confusion?
ps. I can't really justify buying a GT86.

I think people still getting the wrong idea of the s2000 you have to appreciate that this little 2.0 engine will keep pace with any z4 or 350z if needs be. And even the bmw may have more lower tourqe but still will have to go down to lower gear if you wanted to get alot out of it like the 350z you couldnt just put your foot down and would get a burst of power you just get a modest stronger pull then the s would lower down the rev range. If you want tourque buy a turbo .will feel alot faster then any like for like na
The s2000 will be a classic for a reason I find it has really good feedback but have not driven the facelift one or early model mine is 2003 and feedback is very good proberly not as good as the z4 would be.
It is a twitchy car though in the wet and you have to know what you doing or you can easily get cought out but drive properly and is fine.
Also I have done 145 easy enough on a private track and still had more should be 150 top speed so saying its good for 130 is rubbish ye its no monster at that speed but still keeps going. And will be same if not bit better then the ź4 fron 120 to 150.
Z4 will pull of the line easyier and slightly quicker and will be nicer place to be in

I was looking at the parts prices for the BMW from Euro Car Parts, a lot of it is so cheap, brake disks and pads are about 60 quid, I reckon it could be a cheap car to run given the reasonable economy, plus cant see them depreciating that much further, or at least not very quickly, a 3.0 at Six grand or under is great value, if you break something major it is all shared with so many other models, the S2000 I suspect is probably a bit more costly, this is all based on keeping away from garages and doing it myself.
