Shares the same engine as the Citroen DS3, and going by the look of it they share a styling department too.
Surely this is just a DS3 draped in Mini-isms

That interior is absolutely revolting. The facia is just ridiculous.

Oh come on now, MINI is not Mini and that has been apparent for many years now.

Next we'll be wishing the latest Focus still looked like a Mk1 Escort...actually, it would be quite cool if it did but that kind of defeats my point.

Mini were a great one car brand - now they really are producing some overstyled, chintzy ste.
Obviously not for you then but millions disagree...

I quite like that, it will sell by the bucket load, it will be marketed well and make BMW a fortune.

Stop confusing car makers with anything other than business men/women. They make something to sell by the thousand and make them a pot of cash. This will.

Looks ok to me, apart from that bit between the front wheel arch and the bottom of the A-pillar - what's that all about?

How does it if its uses BMW's new 3cylinder engines? I dont think its a joint venture this time with PSA. Looks nothing like a DS3 either, save maybe for the way the rear lights sit on the body work

It's going to end up completely spherical at this rate, with the interior just a giant hollow speedometer that the occupants sit in.

This. Different world, customer, criteria, market... everything now.

New MINI is designed to fit perfectly into 2014, not 1962. This thread is exactly what Top Gear were talking about in their 911 feature.

Concept? So they could only conceive of a Mini that looked just like the last one - and the one before it? Shouldn't have taken them long anyhow.

Ha. Very good.
I don't have a problem with the MINI, from base model to JCW. But this really is a bit blobby. Almost like an Asian firm trying to copy the MINI without infringing too much on the copyright.

I did forget the wink face wink As I said earlier my GF and my mum have minis. I suppose I was trolling slightly...

I've owned a few BINI's over the years.

Great cars. Decent dealers. There's little to criticise really.

In PH world, where powerfully built sorts look down on these cars as the transport of estate agents and hairdressers, the Mini is not really appreciated.

But I really enjoyed owning ours. The regular Cooper was a bit anaemic but the S was a lovely little car that I was really quite fond of. I would like another.

Hopefully the new one will not be just a case of change the sake of change, but offers genuine improvements.

I think the best thing they could do is make the car lighter - that would improve everything. And give them larger fuel tanks - the range on the S was its only irritating flaw.

The Mini is fairly light in all fairness. Well I think it is. How light do you think it should be? Min kerb weight is just over 1100kg (supposidly)

Had an R56 Cooper S, which had 4 faults and 1 recall in 12 month's AUC ownership, handed it back to BMW when the trim around the steering column fell away and started flapping around, and the turbo started spluttering intermittently.

Terrible ownership experience. Won't go near a MINI again.

Yeah, but none of them get 45mpg, include servicing for 5 years for £200, most of them aren't £25k, but closer to £15K... and most girls I know, including a few I've known and know particularly well wouldn't want a CSL or 911 at any price.smile

As for "That grille is pure Mini, with the hexagonal shape borrowing from the original Cooper style rather than the sad-face arch." Erm, the original cooper had the sad-face arch as well? They all did until the MK2 of introduced the hexagonal grille.
