I know many people wont like this but I've all ways wanted one of these. Maybe with just the standard interior. I'm not keen on the hideous colour co-ordinated one they allways seem to have. Did any 512 TR's get done or only Testarossa's?
Koenig?

I admire Chris's driving ability and journalism and some of the cars he owns/has owned ... and now he has bought a red Ferrari therefore his fanboys will not have a word said against it ...
Meh, that's a bit black and white. I'm a big fan of the guy as a journo - just the 512 never sat well with me. An accident that happened between the BB and the F40.

The original car looks better, even more so with a few flames. Still it's a great family of cars, the first is the original event car,, the second the smiley safer one and finally the ugly one when they tried to drag it out for too long. Enjoy.

I think most of us in here are insanely jealous of Mr Harris, excellent writer, all round top bloke and he has an exquisite stable of cars.....

Keep the stories and videos coming, I'd take an hour of Chris Harris content on my Sunday night TV slot over TG without hesitation.

Well when it's time for Tiff to hang us his driving boots, how much fun would a Harris / Plato team be.

Personally I find Top Gear quite entertaining, they do occasionally have some great footage of car on there still in amongst the hovervans and exploding caravans. Harris is a far superior car journalist though, his videos are much more satisfying to the petrolhead from an information perspective. Perhaps of limited appeal to the wider masses though?

A valid, point

Then my suggestion is that Chris should produce an hour long video each week for the "proper" Petrolheads to watch every Sunday 8-9pm in place of said wilting BBC production.

Everyone's happy, possibly apart from Chris.

Fantastic. A proper ferrari.

I past a single mirror rosso testarossa a few years back and it just looked well and truly exotic. A memory that will stay with me.
As a poster car the Countach was the god. But in the metal these cars are incredibly stunning.

Look similar. Drive compleltley differently - beacuse on the TR your point C is lower. That's quite a serious modification..
How'd they manage that given that the flat 12 sits on top of the gearbox in both? That's a high CoG arrangement which will be the case regardless of suspension. Same thing was the issue with the 308/ 328 (transverse with gearbox below) which was revised in the 288/ 348/ etc. (traditional longitudinal arrangement).
From: http://www.ferrari.com/english/gt_sport%20cars/cla... :

"Not visually apparent was that the engine and transmission assembly location in the chassis had been dropped by 30mm, to lower the centre of gravity, and thus improve the already high standard of roadholding."

To achieve this engine drop, Ferrari did away with the TestaRossa's engine subframe and redesigned the rear end of the chassis to take the engine directly. This not only lowered the centre of gravity but also stiffened up the rear end of the car.

It also meant that unlike the TestaRossa, who's engine can be dropped out from below the car for service work, 512 TR's engines have to be lifted out from above.

Hope that helps! smile

Chris needs one of these to go with it.

And a Croc as a pet.
Just watched "Death and the Lady" (Season 4) with classic Testarossa scenes and a V12 soundtrack backed with Depeche Mode... Epic.

Hello Everyone,

I own a 1992 512TR, red over tan, black leather dash and steering wheel. This was a 32 year dream to own a Ferrari and I accomplished that dream last year. In this last year I have only needed to change the oil, recharge the AC, and get a new battery. Everything about the 512TR is an improvement based on lessons learned from the Testarossa. The 512TR is not a maintenance nightmare, the engine is very strong. I would not be afraid to buy any 512TR regardless of miles. The reaction of most of the admirers in public is to point out how beautiful the car is. In my opinion and the opinions expressed by others, it is the most beautiful Ferrari ever made.

Please visit my YouTube channel at: RedFlyer512TR to see a few cruising videos.

I went to a polo game this weekend and out of a full field of many types of exotic cars, my 512TR was selected as the favorite at the event. It was a nice feeling and that reaffirmed that the timeless beauty of the 512TR will be appreciated far into the future.

Here is another wonderful photo of this truly epic car. This engine is a work of art.

This car is great to drive and beautiful from any angle.

I believe Chris made a great choice in a strong Ferrari that still captures the dreams and wishes in all of us.

I don't know why, but i thought that one of the many changes from Testarossa to 512TR was the addition of power steering - But based on Chris's comments, i guess not.
Was it part of the F512M's specification?

I'm not sure if there were any significant technical improvements over the 512TR or just tweaking, but I really struggle with the styling of the 512M. The front and rear lights look ill at ease and the wheels are just awful. The 512TR took all the great styling elements of the Testarossa and was subtly and sympathetically revised re wheels and front bumper to create a family look with the 348 and soon to be introduced 355.

I think the biggest and most fundamental change was lowering the engines centre of gravity.

From the Testarossa base the 512TR was 80% new car.
From the 512TR to 512M (M standing for "Modificata" (modified)) was a range of tweaking - a bit lighter (100lbs), a bit more power (15bhp), better aerodynamics but chassis and drivetrain fundamentally the same. The largest evolution of the 3 was by far the Testarossa to 512TR.

Personally I wouldn't have a 512M because of its looks and the problem with the titanium con-rods needing to be replaced at 50K miles...
