They fetch £200 a pair on Ebay.
Not so much as that - a couple of pairs went for £77 and £99 over the last week.

I'd have thought they were worth a lot more than that for the effort put in here.
As the Porsche article linked above says, they're not being stolen just to flog on Ebay.

It suggests they're nicked to provide heat and light sources for cannabis farms - much more plausible.
Given the area (very close to Moss Side, Manchester) then this is definitely more plausible!

Those will have been standard halogen ones, the xenon ones can fetch way more than that, I was looking at some xenon ones for a Mk6 golf and they are around £250 each. It seems VAG cars are always a victim of thefts like these, always see stolen recovered ones for sale with wheels, sat navs and interior pieces missing.

I've never heard of this before, does this happen in the UK to any other cars?
Was it Audi RS's that were being broken into and the seats/interior stolen.
The subsequant replacement/repair costs were causing the cars to be written off.

Ah - I stand corrected.
Yes, they were indeed standard lights.

Does seem to affect VAG cars more than most. Mums Skoda Superb company car had the built in say nav stolen when that model had only been launched less than 6 months prior.

The last time I used a VAG forum it seemed to be full of thieving little gits with a considerable amount of Audi & Bentley and even Lamborghini parts on old Golfs & Polos. No questions ever seemed to be asked why a 19 year old kid from Uxbridge would be selling 20 inch Bentley wheels from his mums flat or a 6th former with a pair of seats from a Gallardo.

Regarding taking the Scirocco apart with a hammer, I bet a solid stamp would have been enough to remove the front bumper from our Golf, as it was the front valance fell off in a car park.
I assume you contacted the relevant autorities?

They would've been stolen to order, well at least that's my opinion based on previous experiences.

Hi there was a gang in north london who used to take bumpers off bmw's also the odd set of lights. You would sometimes see a street with 4 or 5 cars sitting there with no front and rear bumpers.

I was concerned when I bought my Fiesta ST as thieves used to rip all the ST stuff off for their basic cars and leave the skeletons of stripped STs on garage forecourts. It was like an ST Disease.

Yeah would guess they were HID lamps. No point in stealing the Halogen ones even if you did want them for heating lamps in your green house. At only 55 W you can get much better heat for not a lot of money with any old Halogen flood light from B&Q!!!

HID bulbs are lower wattage as well 35 W I think. Not what you'd get for heat, but the light output is obviously a lot higher.

I think I lead a sheltered life. This is despite having a Manchester post code and paying through the nose for insurance.

This, its not a new thing. They take the bumpers and lights around here. Front, back and any sideskirts/spoilers if they can be unbolted trom the outside of the car.

In laws have had their ST badges nicked off their Focus several times. Certain ones are £40+ each from Ford!

I believe there is something similar with Mini wing mirrors as I saw a post from West Mids police saying they'll mark up any mirrors to help identify them.
