****HELP NEEDED**** PEUGEOT Rocker cover
Discussion
ok so i had the rocker cover off doing my valve clearances, put it all back togetther and took it out for a drive. It sounded much better than before but i could hear that it wasnt quiet right yet so i took it home, let it cool, and gave them another go. whilst tightening the rocker cover on SNAP!! the rocker cover nut sheared off the stud that comes from the engine. Now i read a few forums just saying to extract the stud and get another one but the stud dosent go into the cylinder head. Its the left one
some advice would be much appreciated i am stuck with no car pulling my hair out because of a flippin bolt!!!
thanks

Funnily enough I was doing a gasket on one o these last night. They really don't seem to have enough thread on them do they? Must admit I was a little worried about them.
Try tightening two m6(I think) nuts together on the remaining thread, should be able to use the bottom one to undo the stud.

You should be able to get that stud from peugeot, will be very cheap. Just remember when you re fit to make sure the spacers that go between the rocker cover and oil splash plate are in the correct place, and just nip the bolts up. They don't need to be silly tight as its a rubber seal around the rocker cover. Which you should replace really as they do leak.
Looks like there's plenty of the snapped off stud still left sticking out, unless I'm looking in the wrong place (a common problem!), if so...
Mole grips - really really tight, looks like there's enough stud left for at least a decent attempt, knuckle removal may shortly follow though.
Weld a bolt to it (cover everything up to stop the weld splatter getting into bad places!)
Stud remover - the tube type ones, you've not snapped it off right inside the head yet; you need the kit that looks like a set of sparkplug sockets with washers inside them (simplest description).
If it snaps off flush with the head you'll need a proper stud remover, or you can carefully drill it out and remove the remains with a tap... Slightly more precision required there however.
Hopefully molegrips and a good bash will sort it.
Then you need another stud, they don't need to be done up that tight... snapped off the centre bolt which held the rocker cover on my old Land Rover, many moons ago, right inside the head, the other two held it fine, one of the few places it didn't leak oil in fact, so I put a short bolt through the hole with a nut and washer on the other side to fill the hole
Oh, and looking at the photo again, it's into the rocker carrier rather than the head itself, worst case is to whip that off, replace, fix, etc, but that's a little deeper than you'd planned on going!

This is the best way, if you can get two bolts onto it.MangledMetal said:

If you can screw both of your rocker cover bolts onto the thread that is left, use them and then when they're on undo the bottom bolt. The top bolt stops it turning so the stud turns instead.Tobe
Either that or use some grips and shout at it
