The sound is SO WICKED!

Other than that it is fugly as all hell. It is reminiscent of a Vector W whatever model. And what year is this supposed to be, because it looks like something out of the early 90's.

Quite suprised to see how composed it comes out of the tail-out stance. For quite an old car on original suspension, thought it would be swinging from side to side - but pulls it in nicely. Not sure if that's down to the driver (welcome!) or the car though..

The Study CW 311 was presented in 1978:

the production of the imperator 108 started in 1983/1984 17 pieces series 1:

In the 90ies they facelifted the 108 due to the new laws for cars 13 pieces series 2:

In 2008 they produced the last imperator for a special customer. They did a little cosmetic on the front and rear:

the spyder 1982

the commendatore 112i 1993 (only one piece)

My car was built in 1988. It crashed in 1991, I bought the crashed car in 1998 from the junkyard. First i tried to restore it with an independent workshop. That didn´t went well and i decided 2009 to give it back to isdera to fix it.

One of my all-time favourite cars. Just amazing to see it in action, sideways! The owner really is without question a nutter.

Wheel choice is horrible though.

I had a toy one of those when I was a nipper. Always thought it was a Mercedes racing car of some sort. Might scuttle off into the loft after work.
I think you'll find that toy car you had was the Mercedes C111, not this car.

... please excuse my (English) sense of humour ... the consensus here is that car is amazing and it's good to see it is being used for the purpose for which it was built - driving

Wonderful to see this car in action again. I used to have one in my Top Trumps. It's a germanic Countach in my opinion with slightly more restrained drama (i.e. Mercedes tail lights) but is much better than the messed around with series 2 IMHO. Congratulations to the owner for his posts-danke! Such a shame that Mercedes never took it on as during this period the only halo car they had was the later, uglier C 111. Please bring it to Goodwood for the Festival of Speed next year-I would buy the owner a beer or two-sorry bring him beer or two as Lord March's stalls don't do Hogs Back or Star brews that we enjoy in the rest of Sussex.
If the owner would contact me I can arrange free accommodation for him.
What a hoot-thanks Pistonheads and Pistonheaders-more joy than any other site.

Fantastic car. Where's that video of another lap (possibly around Spa) where it belches smoke into the cabin half way through?

ETA: Found it.
That lap's on the Nurburgring...

I saw the car in the flesh there...

Thanks for sharing that part of car history, and respect to you to drive that car as it is supposed to be.

Next time I see you at the Ring, I will definitely hang around to have a chat smile

That spot before finishing straight at Spa is lovely for going a bit sideways too, managed it a few times on a trackday back in 2009 biggrin

Series one easily looks the best out of them all and I love those wheels!

The Spyder looks horrible to be honest. It looks like a fibreglass kit car and not in a good way.

So, are Isdera still about? Sounds like they still exist in some form, though obviously not making cars. Are they like a small engineering outfit who do research jobs and the like?

Hello,

I am the owner and driver of this Isdera Imperator 108i AMG 6.0-32V

To correct the story:
Eberhard Schulz built his first car before 1968, the ERATOR. With this he drove to Mercedes and Porsche and applied for a job. With this "driving application" Erator all doors were open for him. He decided to work for Porsche.

But in his spare time, the Mercedesfan Schulz was working on his interpretation of a new sportscar which united the legendary 300SL and the Study C111 (that came out in 1968): His Mercedes study CW 311

in the late 70s he moved to bb (buchman Brothers) and brought his almost finished CW 311. Together they presented the CW 311 in 1979. Before that, they presented it to Chiefs of Mercedes, who liked it very much. So they allowed Eberhard Schulz to use the Mercedes badge; the star. This never happend before, that a study, that was not built at the factory, had that honor.

Another reason could also be, that they could get an eyecather at the motorshow for free, specially, because BMW would present their new M1. Comparing M1 and CW 311, the M1 was a dinosaur.

Mr. Schulz was very confident of his car and started his own business, of course, with the plans of his car. He founded Isdera and refined his CW 311, quickly developed the ISDERA Spyder as well and began the production of Isdera imperator 108i in 1983.

The car had either the 500 or 560 Mercedes engine from the S-Class. Because of his good relations to AMG (for which he has made many things, such as the AMG badge and the racecar "Mampe SLC"), Isdera offered also AMG V8 engines.

My vehicle (No. 14 of 17 of the first series) was originally delivered with a strong 300hp 560 engine. After an engine failure, a strong engine from AMG of that time was installed during the restoration. All operations were performed by Isdera.

The smoke which was visible in the "Nordschleife" vid, was caused by contact from the tyre with the inner fender. That fender was repaired in the late 80ies after an accident. Unfortunatley it was made wrong. There is the airintake for the aircondition inside. There, the tyre touched. Meanwhile this mistake was corrected by ISDERA.

Indeed, the suspension is very soft. At that time (1984) they wanted a more comfortable GT sports-tourer, while the CW 311 was a real sports racer. Also, the suspensoion is still original and old. We will look after it in the next time.

... and don´t worry, the gullwingdoors are opening direktly upright. You can park directly next to another car, without touching it, when open the doors. Nobody will be killed.

excuse my bad english
This right here is why I love Pistonheads!
