Is there more in Carmel? The only thing Monteray had going for it was the English theme pub.

One of the best hotels in the world - Post ranch Inn - is at Big Sur, just south of Carmel. But even if you don't stay there whole area is stunning.

I'm off on a similar trip at the end of next week. Fly to LA, then Vegas, GC, Zion, Death Valley, Yosemite, San Fran and down the PCH back to LA. Thanks to PH, i'm now going to have to add in a few detours...]

Slightly off topic, but does anyone have any suggestions for music to listen to on the journey? I don't want to rely on Spotify (Vodafone would screw me over if I used my phone in the States) and I have a £50 iTunes voucher that needs using up...

Get a car with Sirus satellite radio and tune channels 7, 8, 9, 51 and 54. It's all you'll ever need.

Hmmm. I have Sirius in my cars and in the last 6 years have only listened to channel 51 out of your list. Just shows how many channels and how much variety there is. I'm sure everyone will be sadend to hear Radio 1 is no longer on Sirius.

If you like 7 & 8 then you will like 25 & 26.
I'd also tune to 139 & 140.
I quite like 95.
Most subscribers are there because of 100 & 101.

I have driven much of this when I lived in LA. Sounds like a blast. Expect lots of traffic on the PCH and maybe even on the Angeles Crest Hwy. Although there are no curves, driving through the desert is something everyone should see. Amazing.

My Dad lives in LA, only a mile from the Los Angeles Crest Highway and I must say it is something to behold! What a driving road, I was lucky enough to drive it many times in my Dad's 2013 Audi S8 and it definitely has everything needed of a great driving road: minimal traffic, no speed cameras, amazing views, good weather, massive drops and it has recently been resurfaced, reminded me very much so of Pikes Peak. I would recommend spreading out and getting some radios to just warn the others since the police do patrol it quite heavily especially on weekends.

Enjoy Chaps!

So, is anyone going on this on their own?

Thinking of signing up but don't really want to be the only person not in a couple!

There are a few couples but also people sharing a car who are either friends or will be by the end of the tour!
I believe (without checking the spreadsheet) we do have someone who is currently coming on their own and is looking to share the car / room with someone.

Give us a call and we can discuss options

We will biggrin
We're hitting Angeles Crest on a weekday afternoon and yes when it's empty it's amazing.

The walkie talkies help with the road layout and the police don't feel we're an issue really as our speeds don't get silly.

Sounds like great fun!

I drove with my wife from SFO to LV in a day... (about 585 miles, as I remember)

It was a kind of - get off the plane at 11:30 in the morning, get out of SFO towards Los Banos etc then on out into the desert... To be honest - it was a bit mad, but, you know - it didn't look that far on the map....? Kind of an accidental gum ball run. It was funny...

Best bits, desert road blasting - it was so, er, deserted In death valley that in the end I just had the thing pinned to the carpet, mile after mile... Some great scenery too...

Two worries, running out of gas & my wife needing a wizz at about 10 in the evening in the desert, she jumped out, a few seconds later, I switched on the lights, I've never seen anyone move so fast... The night landscape was lit up with lizards and various other 'wildlife' forms... She didn't want to stop after that - can't think why...?!!

Entering Vegas at 01:00 in the morning was quite something - lights and all that!

Am sure you will all enjoy it!

Have fun!

;-))

This is on my "really need to do" list; driving for me and overload of food for the GF smile

You still make an appearance on every tour Harsh, or are there too many now to oversee each one?
