My daughter graduated as a Doctor recently, knowing how insurance companies like to use any excuse possible to wriggle out of a claim, I telephoned our multi car insurance provider to inform them of the change of employment from full time student to hospital Doctor, the former can be trusted to take you out for a good time and get you absolutely wasted but not a lot else, the latter is literally trusted with your life.
So it is half way through the policy on a 1.1 Fiesta, do they see it as an opportunity to create good will or do they see it as an opportunity to milk a cash cow and demand money with menaces, £22.61 additional premium to the senior navel officer.
Strange suggestion I know but perhaps they could save spending a fortune on advertising if they did not ps off existing customers.

Well theres normally a small admin fee, which would be part of it.

Doctors have alot of stress, such as a patient dies that they like. Wouldnt make you a good driver on your way home that night.

Late shifts, working nights, etc this is what proberly makes the cost go up.

Most of that will be an "Admin" charge surely, payable for any change whatsoever to the policy. (Well, was for me)

Congrats to your Daughter!

Just reread it. Only £22? Thats less than the admin charge on my policy.

Thought it said £220.

I have never had money back when making changes to my insurance. Any rebate was coincidently offset by an admin fee. £25 to delete my old address, write my new one in and click "Save".

Demanding money with menaces?? Pi$$ take??

Are you serious? £22 extra is less than most companies' admin fee! You should be rejoicing, not moaning!

Congrats to daughter, BTW - hope she is less grumpy than you...

I'd be cock-a-hoop with only 22 quid extra! I changed my car to a lesser group one and got £247 added on mid term

She's a doctor now (well done to her), I doubt she'll be driving a 1.1 Fiesta for long. My old doctor had a Ferrari and a Toyota Land Cruiser with a "Funeral Director On Board" sticker in the back window. Very poor taste some thought.

I've just changed a vehicle with the Naval officer, and the charge is in fact mostly admin (I asked).

On a related note, from a 10 year old E46 M3 to a 997 Turbo, £450 SAVING!!

Hats off to the Navy I say.......

£22 is not a lot, you should be happy with that, as most people have said the admin fee is usually more than that

When I changed car in January, admiral added the premium for the new car (higher insurance group) but didn't apply any admin fee.
I assumed the admin fee was probably recouped somewhere within the premium increase however overall they are still quite a bit cheaper for me than anywhere else.

My mrs is insured through the post office, she moved from an espace (awful hateful POS, worst car ever to grace our driveway....) to a similar value C3 and they sent her a refund as the premium dropped.

Conversely I've had motorbikes insured through Bikesure and found them a mess to deal with for changing tiny details.

I was with them when I passed my bike test 3 years ago, phoned them to tell them I was no longer riding my weedy CG125 on a provisional, but had a shiny full bike license. Somehow having passed my test made me more of a risk as my premium went up ( along with an admin fee ) by the tune of £50
later on I tried to change bikes halfway through a policy and I kid you not it was cheaper to cancel with them and take up an entirely new policy elsewhere.

Doctors are a high risk. It's as simple as that, as another poster has alluded to.

All spot-on. I know 3 doctors and every one of them has ruined their car with carelessness, either by hitting the scenery or rubbing it on other cars as they drive along.

Disappointed by your replies, hoping for "worst ever my Daughters a Doctor post".Menaces cos pay up or not insured. Newly qualified doctor is paid less than newly qualified nurse. No one has to pay for a doctor in this country. 2 of my other cars are with Aviva, they gave me money back.
