Erm... Everybody has to pay for doctors in this country....

Everybody that pays tax that is...

Back on topic, it's a change in the risk, her new job is a higher risk, that's how insurance works.

Can't really see why you're getting all bent out of shape over 20 quid anyway. Your daughter will be on 150k a year soon (that amazingly nobody pays for) I'm sure shell pay you back.

Menaces cos pay up or not insured.
Do petrol stations demand money with menaces? After all, if you don't pay you can't drive. Same as supermarkets, don't pay for food and you starve.

Well done to your daughter for becoming a doctor, overcoming her father's IQ-drag factor makes it even more of an achievement.

Twenty fking quid.

Menaces was a bit strong, but it does seem like 'any change = more money for us because we said so' - I moved to a supposedly better postcode and my car now lives behind a locked gate = increase in premium

Getting hitched dropped mine down a decent amount, but only at renewals as there was no option on the bossy seafarer's website to do an MTA of relationship status.

I'm a Combat medic in the Army and I've just changed my details ( new address and new car) over the phone. This cost me £15 admin fee, which I was told about before commencing. I was expecting an increase in policy but it's dropped £40. So generally I think you've paid an admin fee. Congrats to your daughter, need plenty of good doctors in this world.

Expected you to say £500 fee or something...
I had to pay £99 to change my car on the policy half way through the year which was the admin fee

ETA
Saying that, surely they should include the 'Admin fee' in the premium, it's expensive enough as it is nowadays so £20 is nothing from about the £2000 insurance on a slow car

An insurance premium is subject to insurance premium tax (normally 6%, or 20% for travel). An admin fee is not subject to tax (unless the company charges VAT on fees; most don't).

The admin fee usually goes to the broker for the work they do, whereas the premium goes to the insurer.

So if the admin fee was included in the premium, you'd end up paying an extra 6% on top.

The admin fee is fair enough, but I got ripped off by a wheely nice red telephone a few years ago. Both myself & girlfriend (living at separate addresses at the time) insured our own cars with them - proper Mini & Honda Civic.
We decided to add each other as named drivers and the special version of reality known only to insurers kicked in. Her premium went up £80 as I was a higher risk than her - ok, I'm a year older, but passed my test 2 years after her (didn't bother learning while I was at Uni). Then I added her to my policy and, guess what, £100 increase because she was a higher risk than me!

It is not too hard to see what he was saying...

Probably a long way off for her, good luck!

Why the thread resurrection?

It is hard for me to see, as I don't know any doctors who earn 150k, especially not 'soon' after getting qualified. It would help to find out at which grade they are supposed to earn mythical 150k.

My apologies, next time I decide to reply to two week old thread, I'll run it by you first, to make sure that it is ok.

You have a hidden agenda. (And did you pickup on my comment on the £150K being a long way off?)

Share it please.

Oh, and this is PH, sarcastic comments are expected... No, welcomed!

I thank you.

My daughter graduated as a Doctor recently, knowing how insurance companies like to use any excuse possible to wriggle out of a claim, I telephoned our multi car insurance provider to inform them of the change of employment from full time student to hospital Doctor, the former can be trusted to take you out for a good time and get you absolutely wasted but not a lot else, the latter is literally trusted with your life.
So it is half way through the policy on a 1.1 Fiesta, do they see it as an opportunity to create good will or do they see it as an opportunity to milk a cash cow and demand money with menaces, £22.61 additional premium to the senior navel officer.
Strange suggestion I know but perhaps they could save spending a fortune on advertising if they did not ps off existing customers.
I think you are looking at this all wrong.

Your daughter has now graduated and got a job.

Your call to your insurance company should have been to remove her from your policy, be free and start the next stage of your life. smile

Oh and change the locks. biggrin
