RE: Porsche 911 Turbo S (991): Review
Discussion
Having just sold my 911 Turbo (996), and on my way to put money on a 360, hearing the phrase 'more of the same' is disappointing. My Turbo (with Revo map) was blisteringly quick and it did make me smile. However there was also a complete aloofishness with the car. It as almost....sterile. Amazingly well engineered, incredibly fast, capable in all weathers. And yet it was missing the most important thing - a soul. Pretty sure the GT3 would offer that but having had a couple of Porsches now it's Italian for me.

only 3 seconds between cup tyres and road tyres at the ring?
I was very surprised by that too. If it's the case then the Cups don't make much sense, particularly in the wet. Also, is it a fair assumption than those 3 seconds pale into insignificance compared to the difference in lap times between your average billy and a moderately skilled track driver, which would be several minutes rather than several seconds ?
It's often said that a car is most fun on the limit. What apocolyptic speed would you need to be doing to find this cars limit, though?
However, if you needed to get from one side of the States, for instance, to the other; I don't think you could pick a better weapon. Other than a jet fighter, perhaps.

...you still have to ask yourself how Porsche manage to charge 2X as much as Nissan do to get a similar result.
For one, the interior of the Porsche is a whole lot better than the Nissan. Just like the GT86, when you sit inside, its obvious the money went on the oily bits.Terminator X said:
GT3 is almost 500hp though and must be lighter as no 4WD, can't be much between the 2 point to point now?
TX.
475BHP vs 560BHP, 2 Wheel Drive vs 4 Wheel Drive, 0-60 3.5s vs 3.1s, 0-100 7.5s vs 6.8s, Combined cycle 23 vs 29, CO2 289 vs 227, unladen weight 1505kg vs 1680kg.....OK, you got me on that last one. TX.
I will take the Turbo S please (mainly because the GT3 allotment for this year is sold out ).

Imagine what the gtr would be like with a 60k interior makeoverWhat a superbly written article.
I have an excellent understanding of the dynamics of the car and genuine insight into what it must be like to drive one. Rarely have I read an analysis that so brilliantly communicates the character of a car.
On the basis of Dan's analysis it is of little interest to me.

For the people who come on this thread (and others) and say how crap it sounds and they are not going to buy one, I would like to know what you were expecting from this car. It is c£50K cheaper than a 458 or 12C, just as quick in real world terms, better economy, cheaper to run and seats two adults plus a couple of kids or plenty of luggage. If you want seat of the pants thrills then buy a GT3, if you want a similar experience at a lower price then buy a C2/C4 (S). If you want to get there in a hurry and in comfort.....buy the Turbo S.
So all you haters, what should this car have had/cost/been? Let me guess, turn the engine around so its in the middle, make it a manual, non power assisted or electrical steering, air cooling, manual windows, a £15K price tag and 300mph top speed.

You really did get stung didn't you! I looked at a 12C as really fancied the thought of McLaren engineering but when I looked at the car it left me cold, was just not that special. Tested a 458 and that was pretty magical but just out of reach. I will admit that the 911 TTS may not have the looks of either of those but as a daily driver it isn't bad.

Meh. 15k is a lot for only 300mph performance. I'd expect Bloodhound perf for that kind of money. So all you haters, what should this car have had/cost/been? I had the 997 version and it was awesome but you had to really push on to get anywhere near its limits and that got to scary speed. I recently swapped to the 458 to first try an alternative and second bring the fear back slightly that unless I gave it some respect it would hurt me. I know it also has lots of gadgets but its grip levels in normal road conditions need a bit more respect.
But I love turbos, they epitomise the range so we shouldnt criticise it for being too quick, if it sells then it proves a market for it exists and I am sure it will sell well. Looing forward to the invitation from the dealer to drive one next year.
