Didn't this plate sell for £400K and was and could still be, the record price for a british plate. Which i gather was one of the first ever plates issued in Scotland.

I'm sure " F1 " sold for £440K about six years ago and apparently on the market now for £10 million.... yikes

MR11 ERB spaced MR 11ERB

It was on a people carrier of some sort. Either a pot smoker or someone who likes to heavily season their food.

It's left hand drive. Is that a bit odd? If I had a plate like that I'd want it on something lovely but conventional.

Maybe it's an "ex-John Cleese" car, brought over from the states and mated to the "BAS1L" plate to boost it's value to "a collector"?

I always wonder at what point on the 'celebrity spectrum' you'd need to be before your name in the previous keepers list would actually increase the value of/desire for any car. I mean, would anyone be tempted to pay a premium for Bonnie Tyler's old white VW Golf Cabriolet (if indeed it still exists) if it had something like "BON111E" or "TYL3R" nailed to the front bumper?

There's always someone lower down the scale who wants a bit of reflected glory. Some years ago a dealer locally advertised a 1.4 Golf as "ex Will Young."

I've never tried it, but perhaps the car is just used for swanning down to the South of France so as not to share cabin air with the commoners.

Such a shame. Really. It is a beautiful car, though. Thought at first that this might have been the very vehicle, but J S Vile's car was not LHD?

Very much this. That plate has been a regular on this thread over the years and is usually spotted in Monte Carlo.

Might be a mate of " JOE 5 " the cream older Rolls Convertible that's always parked in Casino Square...
