How much would you expect it to weigh? It's a pretty small car with very little in it and it still weighs a tonne. The latest MX5 is only about 120kg heavier and is a substantially bigger car with the weight disadvantage of being front engined/RWD.

Which model? A V12 convertible is about 1840kg whereas a 3.6 coupe is around 1600kg

Ermmm, a boot is simply a contained space of air. Which doesn't weigh a lot.

Well, a general compromise in storage space and equipment. For example, the car was designed without a boot behind the engine so a shorter, lighter exhaust could be fitted, and so the weight distribution wouldn't be changed with luggage.

Overall it's a more compromised car than an MX5, but is lighter.

Not sure about the Jag, but Chrysler/dodge's reasoning behind the hefty weight was due to the targeted "clientele" preferring a car which felt "solid" and "planted" on the highway.

The two I drove many miles in had all these things, just very very small. I think. But it still as a sort of boot,albeit a space useful only to small rodents.

Plus you need to know the spec of the car too - climate, bigger wheels, sun/moon roof etc can all make a fair few kgs difference. I like the Autocar tests as they are actual weighbridge weights from the Mira scales plus you can see the spec of the individual car tested ( what options it had, wheel and tyre size ) They also tell you the fuel load.
Other than weighing your own car their figures are usually a very good guide

Even the Elan +2 is lighter (940kg ish) than the MX2 and it has two extra seats!

I remember years back seeing the advert for the Audi TT Sport (the two seater one) and Audi boasting that the TT had been lightened to "just 1400kg" and thinking that was heavy, even for a standard TT!

(putting pedant hat on...) I think 4 door Sierras weighed more or less the same as the Exige - it was only the 3 door 1.3l Sierra that was less than 1000kg... None the less, I see what you mean!

It's a 5-door 2.0iS - they weighed in at around 1000kg - one of the lightest models

Does it? MR2 has a boot behind the seats which can accomodate a set of golf clubs or a pushchair (lids have been unscrewed in mine which helps). Could you fit them in an Elise boot?

With the hood up the parcel shelf is a decent size and if you removed the spacesaver (and replaced it with lead to maintain the balance ;-) you'd have a decent front boot as well. Glovebox is also a good size!

So I don't agree with the "MR2 has no boot line" (admittedly it would be no good for tip runs), but for fun VFM it's probably the best car I've had by far, and I'll be very sad to see it go (it definitely won't carry two children unfortunately)

To get to the boot behind the seats you have to fold the seats forward and slide them forwards. The Elise you just open the boot and put stuff in hehe I might unscrew the lids on mine then...

But yes they are brilliant fun which makes up for it!

Removed the bins completely on mine gives quite a large storage area, chuck the spare wheel for a can of gunk aka Elise and you have a good amount more room.
