I would save the cash for when the dodgy Carrera engine needs replacing

I drove it a couple of weeks ago, the RPM guys kind enough to let me take it to the Pistonheads meet-up at Salon Prive. Felt a bit more appropriate and interesting than turning up in my 968 Boxster S.

I know lots of different magazines have tried and tested it, but here is my verdict;

Overall its a very impressive car, especially compared to the standard 997 Carrera. Firstly the noise is fantastic, a proper growling roar, a bit more mechanical, dare I say a bit more like the air-cooled era (pauses for abuse - just my opinion!)

Love the styling. The duck tail and turbo bumper look great. Looks very aggressive next to standard 997. Gold paint and decals are just enough to show it is something different without being OTT. Interior comfort and toys all remain, so usable for long journeys.

Gear changes are quick and very direct. Handling is fantastic, no understeer at all, giving you a lot of confidence to push the car in the bends, knowing the nose will turn in. I got no where near the limit, partly due to the car being on R888 that day and it was raining! Possibly R888 are too much of a widow maker for every day use, or my driving isn't good enough!

I found the suspension setup a bit too harsh for the road, bouncing along the M25 became a bit tiring. For track it would be great, but if I was using this as a road car I would soften the setup a bit.

So after driving it for a day I was left smiling! Probably more comparable to a 996 GT3 than a 997 GT3. Get the point on cost, but this is a show car of what is possible.

I am quite tempted to do my own, but as others have said, I'd probably do a 996 instead of 997 (due to budget). Then for me the exhaust, suspension and styling would do nicely.
