Surprisingly quick cars
Discussion
A lot of cars it is down to how commited, skilled or mental the driver is, noever underestimate the lengths some will go to to make a point, a Seat Leon Ecomotive was following me quite easily down lanes in the 944, mainly s I wasnt willing to go any faster but on paper figures on the road dont always translate, I can make our Citroen C1 go faster than it has any right to, flat out everywhere but in anything fast its just occasional blips.
Anything diesel can be hard to shift of a rear bumper, the performance is so accesible.
I have got to the point, I am not bothered if someone elses car is faster, as long as I enjoy my drive, I suspect a well/hard driven 320D could trouble my 350Z but I am not about to lose my license, crash or hurt someone to prove my car is faster, it really doesnt matter and if the other car has a tale about how he beat a faster car, good for him or her.

Just wondering if anyone has been 'surprised' recently by how quick a car has been...I ask as had a toyota avensis estate D-4 up my trumpet the other day, and couldn't believe how quick it was. First thing i did when i got home was lookup its spec!
Honda CR-V. Although I'm not talking about it's straight line pace, but how it was being driven. They were either hugely capable, or a complete and total nutter. Or maybe a bit of both Either way their progress cross country was pretty phenomenal. My E39 520i Touring. Dog slow to 30mph and really surprisingly quick beyond that. I've had it up to 125 and it was still pulling strongly there. Top speed is supposedly 139 but I haven't yet had a chance to get it up there. Engine is seriously lacking torque so it really has to be kept on the boil above 4000rpm to be an effective overtaker.
Any diesel pretty much. Motorways suit them and you have to be in something seriously quick to make the advantage obvious. They romp between 50-80 so you have to go well into license losing territory to prove a point. Brings to mind Clarkson's point that any car for sale these days will do a comfortable 100mph, begs the question why we bother with performance cars on the road!
