I'm not so fussed about the paintwork on my Range Rover as it's pretty tired anyway, but even so the hoses are still not long enough to allow smooth filling of the tank as the nozzle doesn't sit in the filler neck correctly. Brrr. Click. Brrr. Click. Brrr. Click. That's 13p. Great. It's often quicker to wait for the other pump.

But there's no way I'd risk the paint on the Aston by draping a fuel hose over it. However, while I'm waiting my turn, I'm never going to be too fussed about what you might be doing or how you fuel your car. If you can fill up from either side, crack on - don't mind me!

I quite often reverse in to use the other side - its a lottery though, sometimes the attendants get uppity and refuse to switch it on...
I've had this...

I was quoted health and safety when I then debated it with the lass behind the till.

Do it all the time & always seem to get glared at - exactly like OP said, it's as if I've pushed in & then for good measure kicked them in the balls. The hose easily reaches over the back of the car without touching it so I don't get why people are so fking stupidlaugh

I have had this happen to me before as per the op. My cars pump is on the left which is usually just a little bit quieter than right hand pumps, but if it's a fill either side job (especially most Sainsbury's) then I don't mind which side I go

One that has happened to me a few times is there has been two free pumps but I've stopped at the first one. Person behind goes absolutely mental at me. Pump at the front is diesel only!! (so definitely not going there). Another time I stopped behind another clear pump because the high octane was on the first pump. Queue a tirade from some ****head behind me telling me how uncurteous I was and how people like me are a scourge on society, how ironic!

When I explained it to him, he went even more mental and said it's all the same petrol. I couldn't be bothered to explain RON or Octane ratings to him, it would not have been compatible with this primitive brain

I pulled into Shell the other day (other petrol stations are available) and there were several people waiting for the pumps with fillers on the offside, two cars sat behind current fillers, just waiting. I just pulled into the middle pump which was completely empty and it reached perfectly fine, I was baffled as to why people are seemingly reluctant to pull the pump an extra foot or two to save a wait.

Oh well. I was in and out before the others even got to the pump.

I always queue jump and fill on the "wrong" side - if people are too stupid to do this that's their problem.
I also love it when people sit in the entrance to petrol stations blocking everyone to "keep their options open" pick a pump and wait ffs

Our BM has the filler at the OS rear, the camper at the NS middle so "draping" the pipe over the latter is impossible. I seem to forget which I'm in all too often!

But her driving instructor had told her to only fill on the "right side"
did he also let her practice for free changing gear on his "special" gear stick?

I've filled both my Porsche Hairdresser and the missus on 'the wrong side', but it the latter's case I've had to get her very, very tiddly indeed.

I've seen people do the occasional head-shake at me when doing exactly the same thing but it doesn't really bother me, I'm just not looking forward for the inevitable when I come across a pump which in fact isn't long enough to reach and I look like a fool biggrin

As mentioned - try reversing up to the pump and watch everyones head explode like you've ran over their dog.

Either side for me, no problem in any stations, except in the van... Cars have always been fine to use both sides around here, but I bought a van last year for work. I was so used to using both sides in the car that one day I decided to jump in on the wrong side, it wasn't until I removed the cap, started filling, I realised I couldn't see the display on the pump paperbag
Knowing dam well how much I had in cash on me I couldn't just fill it up, instead I had to keep stopping and walk to the back of the van to check how much was in it... seemed to take forever, and the guy waiting behind me seemed to be laughing at my expense.

hehe

Trick question, you fill it from the top with bike upright so that you can fit more petrol in.

I do this, it's just common sense, so long as the car you've just parked in front has enough room to get out. All it does is cut down queue times overall (especially for yourself hehe )

Who me ?

Always makes my day to see long queues to fill up on the pump side ,and the looks I get when I sail in to an empty wrong side and fill up . Still if their name is RAAAAMBO or Baarbra ,they can give me all the woolly looks they want . I bet these are the ones that get fleeced .

You have to be joking.

No local station will let you fill whilst sat on the bike.

My local shell always as queues on the OS pumps. I always go N/S for the O/S filler cars. People stare and mutter, but the penny never drops. No one learns despite by best efforts to educate.

Non issue. Pick up the hose and hold it off the paintwork.

fking people WTF!

Pick the hose up and hold it away from the paint!

However my local shell only has a couple of pumps with v power so I'll queue for them when others are free.
