Carbon sill tops - £6,713
Who on earth would pay the price of a new Dacia for some bloody carbon fibre sill covers? Carbon fibre isn't even that rare or expensive anymore. Conclusive proof that some people really do have more money than sense I suppose.Nope, still not convinced I'm afraid. I know some people love this car because it is understated and I give all due respect to the fact that Mclaren took the criticisms on the chin and have actively tried to fix some of issues with the original car but I'm still not convinced by the overall package I'm afraid.
The 458 is by no means perfect either but too me it's a much better "supercar" in all the ways that matter to me, screaming NA engine, fantastic noise and drama that the 12C just can't match. It's a shame as for me the F1 was a total game changer where as despite all the technology they've thrown at this thing, it seems to have turned out to be just another rather generic by-the-numbers supercar and this is never an accusation that should be aimed at a supercar, let alone one from Mclaren.
Still kudos to them for finding a sufficient number of rich idiots to sell all the overpriced extras to.

Why is the options list a "p*sstake" then?
Because it completely undermines the function-above-everything credo that McLaren tried to carefully cultivate before realising that isn't how to make money, so they are now desperately trying to shed it with lurid colours and Ferrari-matching levels of outrageously priced plastic stick-on bits. It's wince-inducing. The car itself may be fantastic but the way they have gone about the whole project has been a debacle, really.

Great car, p*sstake options list. Didn't realise Alcantara was 'performance enhancing'
Where does it say it is?TheBigUnit said:

dude, your logic and reasoning needs work
It's 2013: Your vocabulary needs work. And you're telling me that if somebody thinks their car will benefit from a titanium fuel filler cap or MSO badging on the sills, they should pay less for it? It is your logic and reasoning that needs work. How much would it cost for a half decent coach trimmer to cover roll over hoops in alcantara? couple of hundred quid?
Can't blame the company for offering these type of options but you'd have to be a very rich with no regard for value or just a bit thick and vacuous to order half that tat.
Just Halfords for the well heeled IMO.

Some seriously idiotic comments here - more money than sense being one of my favourites. To a lot of the people these options are targeted at, a few grand here and there will be worth it to get their McLaren the way they want it - otherwise they'd just get a used one surely if they cared that much about money?
