Some seriously idiotic comments here - more money than sense being one of my favourites. To a lot of the people these options are targeted at, a few grand here and there will be worth it to get their McLaren the way they want it - otherwise they'd just get a used one surely if they cared that much about money?
Customers happy, McLaren happy, (dreamers not happy).
Until they come to sell it when they suddenly realise that they have lost the money on the options list and then some. And sorry but no one likes to loss money no matter how much you have. Customers happy, McLaren happy, (dreamers not happy).

McLaren won't lose money on the list - these post production in house customisation places wouldn't exist if they weren't worth it. And any customers that have chosen the options won't see it as lost money either.Sexual Chocolate said:

I'd love to know how places like McLaren work out how absurdly they can price options, because you know that with Ron Dennis at the helm there will be a scientific process to it.

How much would it cost for a half decent coach trimmer to cover roll over hoops in alcantara? couple of hundred quid?

MSO Pack what a fking joke - those seats are recaro pole positions which cost £1k to £1.2k a pair if bought from any seat retailer & another £800 to get them retrimmed in leather
Imagine for a moment you're a very wealthy man (or woman) looking for a 12C with a load of personal touches. You could buy the car and then send it and it's parts to a handful of compaines to do the work for you. OR you could ask the factory backed team to do it all deliver you the car you want only having to deal with one company and not having faff about with quotes, chasing people etc?Which is going to be more appealing to said wealthy person who has better things to do with his/her time?

I think the point people are making is that the cost McLaren are retailing these parts for is massively out of line with what they cost to produce (and subjectively whether they do anything to improve the car). Customers happy, McLaren happy, (dreamers not happy).
I had the steering wheel and boss of my old Elise re trimmed in alcantara and I think it was about £100. It was a perfectly done job too. Does it really cost £2,900 to do a roll hoop?
Of course McLaren are happy. If you sold something at a mark up of several 100% you would be too.
If you ticked all of those options £112K is a lot of money for some shiney stuff that does nothing to improve the performance of the car.
And I suspect that you're wrong that most owners don't care about the money. Cars like this tend not to be kept for that long and they will take a complete and utter shafting come resale time. Great news for the subsequent owner though.
Some people don't care what they spend their money on or how much it costs, to rich Arabs, Russians etc, £112,000 option list on this 12C is just loose change to them.
Mclaren know this and are trying to take advantage of it, just like any other car maker would do e.g. Ferrari, Audi, Porsche etc.
My only criticism are IMO they are trying too hard with the black bonnet and rear, the normal 12C, whilst a bit bland is not ugly.
If I had to choose though, I'd take the Ferrari 458 all day long, the 12C might be faster, better to live with and probably more reliable, but it just does not excite me. I find it too bland.
The 458 looks brilliant, and sounds even better.

Ron Dennis sort it out mate

I'd LOVE to know how a not for profit organisation such as McLaren can justify forcing these "so called" options on the unsuspecting public.
This country is going to the dogs, now the Italians.......
I remember reading previously that the proper "McLaren" badge on the bonnet (in the same style as on the F1) is limited to MSO cars. Regular production line vehicles get the little whoosh logo instead. However it's not on the price list - could it be that they actually throw in something for free?!

The post a few up about the hassle of going through so many companies to get all the individual stuff done though. I guess it would take a few days/weeks, said rich person could quite easily make that in the time they spend out of work driving between companies.I had the steering wheel and boss of my old Elise re trimmed in alcantara and I think it was about £100. There is all sorts iin the world charged with monstrous mark ups on production costs, does it stop people buying them if there is demand? No.
Yes it is a lot of shiney stuff, but no one forces the customer to pick them? Key word is OPTIONAL. Don't want them, don't buy them. McLaren obviously believe they'll make money on them, it's up to the customer to buy them and the customer to deicide whether they want them, not the dreamers in this thread.

dude, your logic and reasoning needs work
It's 2013: Your vocabulary needs work. And you're telling me that if somebody thinks their car will benefit from a titanium fuel filler cap or MSO badging on the sills, they should pay less for it? It is your logic and reasoning that needs work.Hamsternator said:

I'm led to believe that the McLaren badge comes with the carbon bonnet.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
