Yes it is a lot of shiney stuff, but no one forces the customer to pick them? Key word is OPTIONAL. Don't want them, don't buy them. McLaren obviously believe they'll make money on them, it's up to the customer to buy them and the customer to deicide whether they want them, not the dreamers in this thread.
No one is saying otherwise. If they sell loads of those options well done McLaren.

It still doesn't alter the fact that the prices are a pi££ take.

Look guys, at the end of the day McLaren are only doing what Ferrari have been doing for years, as an example, I stole this from the Ferrari forum

The fact that as soon as the car rolls out of the showroom it will loose huge amounts of those extras value does not stop buyers over speccing their cars because they can. The only real beneficiary will be the second and third owner

This isn't to my tastes, I'll take a standard 12C thanks with a couple of option bits but I think it's great that McL can compete with Ferrari for those so inclined. Have to say I totally agree with the poster that said customer happy, Mclaren happy! dreamers not happy. smile

The last two items there tell me exactly the sort of customer they had in - fair play to the salesperson though, must have got some really good nodding-dog going on whilst moving through the extras list!

I have to say that was terribly written. It gave me a headache trying to get through it all.

Would you really not have GAP insurance on a £250k car that will plummet in depreciation and you stand a good chance of wiping out?

Might be a piss take for you and me, but to Sheikh Mansoor Abramovich it is just pennies, that's the people Mclaren are aiming to attract.

yes

RTI insurance would be better! I'd say £1200 for that is one of the better options!

Great car, p*sstake options list. Didn't realise Alcantara was 'performance enhancing'
It is - to MacLaren's profitability. There must be some proper mugs out there if people pay that for a bit of cloth trim

The exterior make up is attempting to keep up with what the trends are and the car does look all the better for it. But the interior on the other hand looks a little on the cheap side with the colour coding of trim etc, all looks a bit diy halfords esque to these eyes. Do like the rear end though, gives it a bit of presence.

Kind of reminds me of this, which is ironic considering this 12c looks like it crashed into a Halfords!
Money doesn't buy you taste that's for sure.

Gap insurance and a clear bra are probably the best things on that list.

They can charge whatever they want, different target groups etc so all the comments regarding how silly their pricing is are pointless...

But it's ugly, fact. The spraying bits in the interior...seriously?

Ignoring all the loud tat for just a second.

What the hell is going on with that torque figure, its down 1lb/ft of torque over the standard car.

Looks like there is a massive lack of imagination at "MSO", even the name "McLaren Special Operations" sounds like something a dull suit came up with.

Give me some Italian flair anytime
Something like 'McLaren Power' would have been better - 'Mpower' for short.

I think it looks great. This car doesn't photograph well. I've seen one of these in the flesh and it was a beauty. I bet your opinions would change if you could see it for real, as in the photos. The options are overpriced but as said before the average bloke isn't gonna be able to afford it. The type of guy that's buys this motor will spend on the extras because he can and will probably feel good for doing so. I'm quite happy to sit back and admire the car and its engineering mastery and let the rich boys spend their money on what they want; doesn't bother me.

What? What exactly are you trying to say? Pay less than what for it?
I don't know - you tell me. You're the smart guy that called the prices a "p*sstake". Next to over 900 quid for a tyre pressure monitoring system in a 458, they look even more reasonable now.

A little tacky in places but I'm sure the sense of occasion behind the wheel is sufficent! Anyway the more I see the standard car the more perfect I think it is. Elements of the 458 are looking fussy and dated whereas the 12C has an almost 911 understated sophistication about it yet it managers to look special in a way a 911 never could.

I'd kill for one.

That options list is stupid numbers, but then a fool and his money are easily parted

Has the handling been resolved and predictable at the limit yet or have they just put a sticker on that as well?
