You don't get wealthy by wasting money.
There is a subtle difference between paying whatever it takes to get what you want, and wasting money.
The fact that you could achieve exactly the same effect for a lot less money suggests to me that some of these options fall into the latter category.
If you're rich enough to do it then good on you, but you will not win my respect by doing so. (Not that you will care, and I don't blame you).

And I suspect that you're wrong that most owners don't care about the money. Cars like this tend not to be kept for that long and they will take a complete and utter shafting come resale time. Great news for the subsequent owner though.

No one is saying otherwise. If they sell loads of those options well done McLaren. It still doesn't alter the fact that the prices are a pi££ take.

I just can't imagine being so rich, so bored, so removed from reality that I'd even consider doing such a thing. That person has more McLarens than there's days in the week and yet that's probably still not enough. Can't imagine what bespoke trim/body panels would cost for a P1!!!
I like this a lot better than the standard car, except for the exposed carbon bonnet and color-coded interior bits. Though I'm not usually a fan of orange paint on cars, is there really any other colour a McLaren should be than Papaya?
I'd love one, and if I could afford the Macca, then I'd also have a 458 Speciale for balance. Why not?
As for the options being ludicrously overpriced, they are, but I don't think MSO's targeted customers would care. The market will dictate whether they are overpriced (from the standpoint of the actual customer, as opposed to the peasants like me and other commenters). I mean, if you are a multi-millionaire/billionaire, what's a few thousand extra on your $300,000 car? As others have said, you don't have to get all the options, that's why they're called options! If I were in the position, I'd simply have the Papaya paint and the MSO front bumper/splitter.

Good question! I was under the assumption that the whole car is carbon (well, the tub and bodypanels. I know the front and rear subframes are aluminium). I'd wager a guess that it means exposed carbon, meaning you're paying £7,732 for them to leave off some of your £6,000 paint!!!

That may well be the case, in which case the amount of labour and the part rejection rate will be vastly higher. Getting twill perfectly lined up is an art form.
