A hot Yaris? No thank you!
A hot Yaris would be a good thing. I think the last one looked the part in T-Sport form. It just lacked the grunt for a hot supermini. Toyota DID recently launch a turbo petrol - it's called the Yaris Turbo GRNM (Gazoo Racing Nurburgring Meister). http://www.caradvice.com.au/245586/toyota-yaris-tu...
According to the article it has 112kw (about 150hp) and 206nm (don't know what that is in ft lbs) so it's not quite in fiesta st territory but would do alright against the DS3 turbo.

It's strange, 3SGTE in a GT4 works well. In the Mr2 it just seemed wrong for an MR layout.
Be interesting to see what they do, if they do but the less old school peaky turbo it is the better from a proper driving point of view.
2JZ benefitted from the big engine to spin up the turbos quickly.
Was there not rumour of a new Supra coming from Toyota?

An engine from a better time of turbos though... When turbos were turbos, and didn't pretend to be naturally aspirated! These new turbos are just too soulless, and their existence in a model line up means there's no need for an interesting/slightly exotic engine for the quick versions.
Do you not like any change at all?I think all drivers don't want an engine to feel laggy or turbocharged except some petrolheads who think lag adds character. I drive a no soul diesel engine the only characterful part of that unit *is* the old school lag then punch as the turbo kicks in. I drove a 2011 320d recently and the engine is better than mine in every single way. Throttle response was a bit slower than I'd like but that's the way BMW tune the fly by wire. Point is 99% of ordinary drivers don't want any noticeable lag. If I could have the same engine in my car with no lag I'd take it, it would make driving it easier and smoother. Then it really would be a completely characterless engine tho.

Very inexpensive last time I looked.
They certainly are. They are getting into winter shed money but a winter shed with 250bhp and 4wd. I know next to nothing about these cars but there are a couple of tidy looking examples for £2500, a few more around £3500 although not sure what makes the others more valuable. What are they actually like to drive compared to similar era 'grale for instance?

I very much enjoyed my old Rev 3 MR2 Turbo's engine, which I think was pretty much the same as GT-4 Celica (minus the bigger intercooler maybe).
It would be good to see them giving us something with some power!
Yep exactly the same give or take a part just swapped around 180 degrees. One of the best engines to come out of Japan for reliability too and was produced from 89 to into the last decade in various forms. Quite a solid little thing It would be good to see them giving us something with some power!
I think mine was 245bhp standard but it was fairly easy to get another reliable 30-40bhp for pocket change. Those were the days.
