The whole car looks crap. A horrible body, with awful add ons. Not really sure if the management were drunk at the time this went though approval.
I wouldn't put it as strongly as that but never liked the coupé at all... At the time of it's release it just looked like Merc decided Audi had the A5 out to compete with the 3 coupé and felt they were getting left behind. Quick as they could rustled there own 2 door but it just seems rushed, to fit the brief. Mercs have never been my thing and this is no different.

Probably not the perfect place to ask but can anyone give me an indication of general running costs and reliability of the C63 in general?

Not in the sense of car tax and fuel but servicing costs, general consumables etc over a couple of year period?

Feel free to PM me if you don't won't to disclose it on the thread.

I'm also interested in general opinions from current owners over the day to day usability and reliability too please.

I have a C63 AMG PPP (i.e the 487BHP one). It is an April 12 plate and cost me £48k with 4k miles on it in December against a list in excess of £72k. It will do 22 mpg if you use DISTRONIC PLUS on a motorway, or 12 mpg if you use your foot on a country road. The suspension is too hard and things rattle. Lots of options are bloody annoying (see the blog below for a comprehensive list). But it is a 6.2 litre V8 and every now and then, that will make you laugh out loud at the sheer stupidity of it all.

Loads of info on MB club UK website if you want specifics.

Forget the coupe, get a nice wagon in black for über-stealth mode.

Don't bother with Harmon Kardon either, you'll want to listen to the engine all the time!! smile

Don't worry about the oil consumption either, it gets better!!

28.5mpg is achievable with massive restraint although 18average is more normal with 12 the worst.

Just listen to the bass....

Or the NASCAR-lite madness that is a 6.2l V8 turning at 7200rpm and doing sport+ upshift.... (bang!)

I really like the coupe. Drove one of these with the PPP and they are stupidly quick.

It's on my list to own in the next few years.

mmmm, the thought of a PPP and its increased reviness is too much for me to concentrate on work right now smile should a 6.2 really be revving like that?

Unfortunately a PPP is out of my budget right now frown

That wagon is lovely.

Odd car as i think it looks a bit naff in saloon form.

Also, isn't the ride meant to be pretty bad compared to the E92 M3?

Really? I personally think the C class is the best looking saloon out there. The only downside is that a C63 doesn't really look that much different to a reasonable spec C class

I picked up my Edition 507 Coupe in September and couldn't be happier! I chose to have mine in black with black wheels and I'm pleased I did. The contrast of white with black accents works well on some cars, but not the 507. Probably the vinyl sill strip was a step too far! But on my black car the strip works well and is quite subtle.
Take a look at this vid, it was the moment my baby was born! Lol

At first glance I thought it had a shark fin on the back like a D-type!

Yep, that's the idea! Mine's exactly like that except for being the post facelift. It's very stealthy.

Winding up "proper" sports car? Oh yes. Like when I was enjoying a brisk drive one afternoon when, coming round a roundabout, a Ferrari 360 saw me and THEN pulled out in front of me and totally cut me up.... I shrugged in a gallic way to convey a general meaning of "WTF?!" at him. So berk features in front in his big red shiny car flips me the bird and nails it. Unluckily for him, already being in Sport + meant keeping up was trivial... His doubletake in the rear view mirror as the black C class taxi school run mobile easily kept up appeared to cause him some quite considerable surprise.

Needless to say, he didn't try very hard at the next red light... smilesmilesmile

If he was a real man he would have tried even harder, clearly.

No. If he were a real man he would have apologised for cutting me up in the time honoured method of putting your open hand up to say "Sorry" to the other driver.

As opposed to giving me the middle finger and attempting (but failing) to demonstrate the superiority of his car in order to put the cheeky taxicab in his place... Needless to say, he didn't try to "impress" me again.

I'd be interested in seeing what a post-facelift black wagon looks like. You got any pics mate?

I think it's that it doesn't photograph very well from some angles as I'm always looking for that massive rear flank when I see them but it doesn't seem to be that bad in the flesh.

These are better photographs....

Potentially in the market for a C63 507 edition, have been looking at one but the options list I've been given makes no mention of a LSD in either the standard equipment or options.

This article doesn't help (sorry Dan), mentioning the LSD as "standard" and then "optional" later on.

Research suggests it was standard in some markets (Australia) and optional in others (US)

So, did the UK model 507 come with the LSD as standard? Other than the obvious hooning is there a way to tell definitively?
