I dunno, I cast doubt on whether it will be sufficiently quick to justify the difference over a GTi.
If Peugeot go all crazee and give it 250bhp that'll be a more or less unique car in that segment.
Maybe they will, maybe they won't. In the meantime I'll personally follow this with positive interest, rather than sitting on my sofa complaining about a car I know nothing about, and crying out for another 205GTi If Peugeot go all crazee and give it 250bhp that'll be a more or less unique car in that segment.
Question: How many of the 205GTi heroes actually own one?

You're right about people wanting a lightweight, stripped down hatch whenever a car like this comes along.
Then Renault make the Megane R26R and no one buys it.
Precisely, yet still people post the usual strip, 20% more power, even suggest an impossible price and say it's what everyone wants... it will sell like hot cakes. And they don't. This mythical market is just that, it doesn't exist. Then Renault make the Megane R26R and no one buys it.
I have both the 208 GTi and the 205 GTi. The 205 is fun for what it is but realistically, after 30 miles of smiling from ear to ear you're ready to take it home. It's an old car built upon old principals. It can't be recreated and really why do we want it to be?
The 208 however is a great all rounder. You can sit in it for 3 hours and not feel tired. The level of spec is important to me, I couldn't have a do it all car without Bluetooth, USB, Auto Lights and Auto Wipers. It's economical and for me at least, fast with plenty of grip. There are plenty of good 205's out there for a fraction of the price of a modern car and if maintained well are reliable. So if you really want another 205 just go and buy the original, let the 208 be appreciated for what it is.

The current GTI is around £19k list price so I'm guessing this may be around £21-22k? Good in concept but unless they make it very focused not sure it will sell. Also the bloody steering wheel obscures the bottom of the dials!
You're either sitting too low, haven't adjusted the wheel properly or are a proper shortarse. Sez lightthefuse, 208 owner, all five foot eight of him. Who can also see all the dials without a problem.
Yes please to the 208R, pretty pretty please to a Rallye - not sure if I could live without the touchscreen and all the niceties though, but surely using the Access interior with bucket seats would shed a few pounds?

And there you have it... Most people who want light don't want stripped. Less weight but let me keep the toys
In my case, yes, Bluetooth/GPS for work and so on. None of it necessary mind you. I did mention the Access level of trim though which has none of this and makes do with a CD/radio that could easily be stripped out to save about 300g... HighwayStar said:

You're right. If people wanted such a focused car they wouldn't be buying a supermini-based car, they'd go straight to sports cars, or used ones...But... much like every other PHer, I'd love to watch a Chris Harris video of a Fiesta RS (if they make one) VS 208 R
