Didn't go too well!

i take your points but i simply must disagree, ive yet to see a TT with more than 10k on the clock not look or feel tired, have a look at the side bolsters on the seats and you'll see what i mean, the myth of quality is just that, propagated by people that claim to know a lot about cars.

Audi use Faurecia a lot for their interioirs, Peugeot own Faurecia so you cant tell me the raw materials are much better

The RCZ is made by Magna not peugeot, next to some pretty spicy metal!

as for le mans, they may win the battle, but they lost the ILMC to peugeot in 2010 and 2011, so they lost the war.
Sorry but leather thickness should not be taken as an indicator of quality. Most of the BMW's I've owned have shown bolster wear after even 10k miles from new, but get them on a ramp and look underneath at how they are bolted together, and it's obvious why they cost the money they do. The same applies to VAG (though the value obviously drops off exponentially when moving from VW to Audi).

Richard im only to aware that Audi use Faurecia so that im not arguing.

As for your quality statement i think the issue with Audi is that its the BRAND to be seen in so lots of oiks etc buy the car and dont look after them well which is why there are so many shonkers out there!

Pug did win in 10 & 11 but if you look at the whole picture like the racing series's before and now the FIA World Endurance and not just a 2 years that the ILMC was run for pug are nothing in comparison to A their past or B what Audi have done in the past 15 Years...

Sorry for the Newcastle comment my family are from up there so i know what the TOON means to you lot.....

Im a gooner so i cant really say sht after last weekend....

So you're happy with cheap grade leather in your expensive car?

Some people will want every penny spent on going faster (go and buy a Caterham), but most people want a pretty balanced package where the engineering, trim, equipment level, running costs etc. all stack up to offer a nice package.

I know this is Piston Heads, but if I've got to drive a car every day, knowing that some subframe underneath is slightly thicker and the car might last 30 years instead of only 25 isn't going to make me buy a VW!

£32k expensive? Not really if we use the ever reliable retro-price-o-matic.

any idea how stiff the springs are and how much feel you get throught he wheel? do you get tail lift under breakin or high speed?

does this feel like a sports car or is this a fast mainstream car?

Yep Audi have a lot to learn about endurance racing....rolleyes

Car companies are business focussed.
The ILMC was so low profile as to be almost irrelevant.
Le Mans is the big one. Always was and always will be. Audi's resources and attention has always been focussed on this.
Ask any of the Peugeot Team from 2010/11 what they would prefer, an ILMC title or Le Mans win and you'll get the telling answer.

Making a car that can win over 6 hours is hard but to build a 24 hour winner is something else. That's where the real engineering comes into play.

That said it was a real shame to see Peugeot pull out so suddenly. They had a good team, a fast car and were on the cusp of really challenging. It certainly took the gloss off Le Mans that that year.
Toyota, Porsche, Audi & Peugeot battling for LMP1 honours would incredible to watch.

Having worked for a few car manufacturers (Pug Skoda Audi Alfa MG Rover Ford Vauxhall Mitsubishi Seat)and being a big petrol head I can honestly say that the RCZ was probably the most disappointing car ive ever driven.

It looked the part but felt cheap inside and just wasn't anywhere near quick enough. Interior felt plasticy and not solid and the gearbox is lose to say the least (bit like stirring a bucket of water with a twig) the clutch is far to light as well. The handling was great and it would corner well but it just didn't have the pull out of the corner that it needed. Pug made this to challenge the TT but the build quality and the performance just isnt anywhere near where it needs to be to be considered a real challenger. id take a basic TT over an RCZ anyday of the week right now and with the New TT due for launch next year (according to Audi at their summer CLT training in Munich this year where i saw the new TT and the Audi S1) i think this might be to little to late for pug.....

PSA is losing money like its going out of fashion and although i appreciate what they have done in the past unless they change the company image from grandpa to young and hip i can honestly see them going out of business. (it wont happen as the french government would step in but its not looking great IMHO)

I hope that with the R models things are changing for Pug as ive owned 3 different 205 GTI's (1 1.9 and 2 1.6's), a 309GTI and a 405 Mi16 and since these cars pug have made nothing of any note that i would bother buying...

Also i go to Vence very often (in laws have a holiday home there) and would be interested to know what roads you were hammering as i know a few myself that you probably wouldnt unless you lived there!

On the Audi note the New S1 will be a monster! 234PS quattro package in both 3 and 5 dr.....

The New TT is similar in shape to the current model but becomes more edgey and sharp and with an all new chassis, digital speedo and head up display it will sell like hot cakes.............. AGAIN!
You're a really Audi lover aren't you... Pug did not set out to build the RCZ as a TT rival. They were building a concept car... A pick up in fact. The designer felt he was on to something and the the concept developed into what we have now. Hence the flat look behind the cabin. They stumbled across the look. I get the TT remarks but who's to say it can't be chanllenged. Ok the TT is better built, no doubt about it but the TT isn't that great a car. I know, I have a TTS. Hell yeah it's fast and imo looks great but as I've said before on here, though it's a nice place to be there's no depth to it. No soul, little involvement. It's fun to a point but it doesn't really grab me, make you feel involved. Sure if simply going fast gets you off, you'll be fine.

You could buy 10+ E36 M3s for that price, or 30 slightly rusty Mk1 MX-5s; what's your point? Used cars are cheaper than new? Welcome to Pistonheads, you've just achieved PH clichéd comment no. 7.

Such a shame that they didn't sort the company "nose" that just looks like it was grafted on as an afterthought.

Getting there but must try harder.

The car sounds pretty bloody great in the article. Really hope it goes well for peugeot as their halo car.

Then I remembered an M135i is ~2K cheaper, with a howling straight six, right-wd, and sub 5 to 60...

How on earth would anyone get 44mpg from that? Certainly not me. Stressed little front driver... built by Peugeot... Uggghhh. (and its £30k)!

My wife has a TT V6 and I echo the points about nice place to be and fun to drive up to a point.

The point is that when she replaces her car in the next year, as well as looking at the new model TT, we will look at this. She isn't interested in GT86 and that ilk, but a 2 series BMW is also an option and would be an interesting comparison. The 225i will presumably be at a similar price point to the RCZ R with similar economy/performance if not a comparable spec.

Impressive CO2 figure for something with that amount of power!

Well done Peugeot
Is this really what the world has come to? wink
hehe Well I won't be buying one nor do I really care about CO2 or MPG much, but it is an impressive figure when My 2006 Renault Megane with the F4RT engine produced 200+ IIRC and was expensive to tax because of this (MPG average was also only 24, worse than the 4.8l I had afterwards...)

My TT (tdi Quattro) was one year old with 7K on the clock. I did look after it, but it was only a half leather interior. I thought it wore really well and was generally unmarked. In 3 years and 43k of miles it had the standard servicing, one set of tyres all round, a high level breaklight replaced under warranty, and a broken parcel shelf mount replaced under warranty (no questions asked). That was it! Front tyres lasted 30k and rears 33k.

It felt excellent on the road especially in the wet, standing water did not cause issues and was great in the snow. It was the most fantastic car I have ever owned. The Audi TT forum shows issues with full leather seat sag, which after a campaign I believe was sorted under warranty.
