Didn't the fix also involve new suspension arms, new dampers and the spoiler...so it wasn't fixed just by adding a black box. They toned down vehicle response, as some drivers couldn't cope with the level of response at high speed.
Correct.

I think it looks brilliant, imagine this in bright red. It's just a shame audi don't do rwd. What's everyone's views on Quattro compared to the drive of a bmw?

Thanks for confirming that for me laugh
You're welcome.

If you read your initial post - you claimed that bad old Audi (just Audi) don't bother testing their cars on the test track and just rely on electronics.
This is clearly nonsense and we both know it.
You then got a bit annoyed when I picked up on it.
To try and save face you tried to change your argument to say that most manufacturers now rely heavily on ESP. This is true, but that's not what you originally said.
Nothing more to it really.

To counter your inevitable response: the original TT example - yes this clearly was an oversight a bit like the Mercedes A Class 'Elk Test', but it was 15 years ago and neither example is relevant to the companies today.

Just to bring you up to date I have some more news hot off the press: Jesus is dead, Man walks on moon, the Beatles have split.

You know what, I wrote a long counter to your latest personalised attack but what the hell, if you would care to look back at my original post all I said was this was a downscaled A4, the reference to esp was in reply to scherkeks post about taming oversteer so relevant. I have no interest in replying to rest of your patronising personal digs, I seem to have touched a nerve with you so carry on...lifes too short wink
Nothing personal, I just got annoyed at what I saw as an unchallenged sweeping generalisation. The last line was supposed to be a joke but the lack of a smiley didn't help.
Just another day on PH wink

Mmm not bad.

A transverse-mounted engine though.

Will wait for the M235i thanks.

First the car looks great, the performance outstanding for a 4 door saloon and I would certainly consider the S3 convertible as my next car along with a 2 series convertible. However at £40k by the time I've ticked a few options and I'm in to Boxster territory and therefore a fundamental decision needs to be made which probably sums up the whole 10 pages of debate on exciting to drive or practical.

For all those that want cars that are fun and have fine balance, how many own a vehicle with two seats or less? I'm sorry anything more is a compromise between practicality and dynamics. Your 3 series BMW might be reasonable around the twisties but it isn't anywhere near as rewarding to drive as an Elise and it never can be. It is only by subjective degree that someone's four seater car, in a similar price scale, is better than another's.

So I can get a Boxster but then I don't have the practicality of four seats or reasonable boot space, the S3 looks like a great compromise with the added bonus of AWD, but my heart still wants a sports car

Is there enough steel to sustain Audi's relentless niche filling?

In theory, the perfect car but each day i opened the door to it, I would slowly die inside at how dull it looks.

It would look good with a nice set of Roush-style side stripes on it and to hell with subtle. Not racing stripes though, that would be crass.

i prefer the previous car, the extra creases / lines make it look fussy

It's the first AUDI I've really liked the look of, I'd be quite tempted in 12 months or so!

Have to have DSG (S Tronic?) though!

This puzzles me, the 1st Audi you have liked the look of? They all look exactly the same, just scaled up or down dimensions? We had a loan car from Audi when pals car was in for a service and we actually had to get out and look at the back to work out which model we were in? I actually agree that the 3 is a fine looking car just very similar to the rest in the range...

Bought, yes. Driven , no
Ordered it back in November pre release.
Been told that due to paint issues it won't be available until September. We had originally specd estoril blue. They couldn't paint the car that colour. Now ordered in Daytona grey and still they're having paint issues.
I have no idea why they can't paint a car, perhaps someone should tell them that watercolours won't work .
In the meantime the dealership have been really great. To be fair they have really pushed Audi to provide a courtesy car in the mean time. We have this loan car until September. Hopefully I'll be able to let you know how it drives in September when I finally get hold of it.

To replace the M135i at the end of the year. Fancy a four door saloon or coupe. Test drove the CLA45 AMG, impressive but very expensive. Interested to see what the new Jag XE will be like, hopefully with the supercharged V6...

Good luck with delivery. I've been told first week in September, despite ordering at the start of the year. To be honest it's ridiculous. I'm very close to cancelling the order and buying something else. I don't think a car of this type is worth waiting so long for at the end of the day it's just a small quick mass produced saloon, not some piece of handcrafted exotica.

I'm in no hurry to change - and want to wait and see what the Jag is like anyway - so the long lead time suits me!
