Wow.

What a first week of testing.

Early in the week we had some issues, including fuel leaks, some potentially game stopping electrical gremilns to name a couple & things looked difficult.......

....until Tursday. Something just seamed to click, we wheeled the car out to Golf apron, after 3 attempts (due to the engine being full of inhibitor) the engine settled to a stable idle & we had full control. Job done for the day.

Friday, well, we had plans to see where the distortion limit of the engine was, so we can work out what speed the car needed to be at before full reheat was available.

On the first test we hit min reheat, which was a surprise as with the info we'd had we were lead to believe any reheat would be very, very unlikely.

The second test was something else, we achieved 100% reheat, supposedly not possible with our inlet size, but the engine thought otherwise.

Big tick in the box as this changes the acceleration profile considerably, meaning full reheat from stationary, resulting in a shorter acceleration distance, so we reach Vmax sooner, and that leaves us more stopping distance. BRILLIANT.

Great news.

As a Sootie. I'm interested to know how you are measuring "full reheat".

Things are really starting to happen with this after so many years of hard work. I'm only an hour or so from newquay so will probably go and see the test runs.

Bloodhound supersonic car fires up Eurofighter engine

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-4144...

The Bloodhound supersonic car has been fired up for the first time - and worked a treat.
Engineers turned over the vehicle's Eurofighter jet engine in a "tie-down" test at Cornwall's Newquay airfield on Friday.
It worked flawlessly, sending a big orange flame out of the rear nozzle........................continues

Bloody fantastic guys. Keep up the good work.

Few more pictures.

Checking engine data using TEDAS

Getting ready for tie down.

Reheat works.....YES

Oops.

Odd traffic jam to be at the head of.

If ever there was a desktop wallpaper it's the 'oops' photo...

This looks really interesting: http://www.bloodhoundssc.com/news/bloodhound-go but, sadly, it's too far away from me...

As a layman, would you personally measure it as "all available oxygen used up", or "fuel flow is at maximum/the limitation"?

I don't get the 'oops' thing. Is the cable damaged bottom left?

What has been censored on the computer display?

The tar joining the sections of concrete has been melted and blown away

And I assume the censored computer display is due to the engine still being a front line piece of military hardware certain data is likely considered to be sensitive.

I still dont understand why they've never done similar to the Vulcan and got the public behind it to help raise funds

Disappointing. It sounds like it's another couple of years away now. Anyone else going to newquay? I was hoping it was going to be a warm up for next year.

It's about time some very benevolent organisation or business stepped in now, and funded an attempt next year on the speed record run. Mr Dyson, Mr. Branson, Mr Ecclestone, are you listening? Why is the country so backward in promoting itself. I can think of many other countries, where, once the team had got this far, would be inundated with support.

Dyson must have empty pockets if he's spending on making his own EV. But I am surprised Branson hasn't thrown his hat in the ring.

I presume, outside of Dyson, no one with deep pockets is really into engineering and so aren't bothered. Shame.
