RE: Ford Fiesta ST vs Renault Clio RS200
Discussion
So the Fiesta is:-
- Cheaper
- Faster Acceleration
- Better MPG and emissions
- Has a manual box
- Arguably better looking

Thanks for feedback - anyone else got any feelings on this?
It's a production-based instinct from where we link to other articles that you might want to refer to but wouldn't necessarily want to leave the page you're on. And consistent too - any regular user of the site will know that clicking a link will, as a rule, open a new window/tab. And if you're referring to and fro personally I find it easier to have multiple tabs open.
I guess it's a case of personal browsing preferences and habits but the motivation for doing it this way is to get away from an off-putting wall of text and allow folk to navigate to the bits they want to read as and when they want.
As I say though, feedback always welcome.
Cheers,
Dan
+1 Can we have our comparisons or articles all on one page please as if it were to be printed. It's a production-based instinct from where we link to other articles that you might want to refer to but wouldn't necessarily want to leave the page you're on. I'd rather see a wall of (structured) text than have 3 separate tabs. Also, if people finish reading the verdict and want to comment on it, they have to go back to the original "introduction / comments" tab. Pretty clunky IMHO.It's a production-based instinct from where we link to other articles that you might want to refer to but wouldn't necessarily want to leave the page you're on. While it may be consistent on this site, every other site on the web when you click a link it opens in the same tab/window. My personal preference is a single article with all of the information in it as I tend to read an article from start to finish so find multiple pages or even worse the slide show annoying as chuff to read. If you want add some navigation to skip about then perhaps html bookmarks would allow the user to skip about the single page and see the information they want quickly. It's a production-based instinct from where we link to other articles that you might want to refer to but wouldn't necessarily want to leave the page you're on. Thanks for this, and all the other views. We'll keep the discussion rolling to allow others to comment but we're getting a pretty clear view thus far. Keep it coming!
Cheers,
Dan

I think the main thing is most would understand/expect external links to open in a new tab, or even links to different PH articles (pretty old fashioned but still sometimes used), but when the pages are part of the same article it is jarring.
As for browsing multiple tabs, my workstation currently has over 20 tabs already open so another few are most definitely not required!
The point about the comments only being linked to from the landing page are spot-on too.

Anyway, bother cars are lovely. ST for me, please.

And that is a bit of a mutt and rumour has it ...... no Renaultsport version.
Riiiiight.
Those rumours about cars still in development are usually on the button.
Renault hierarchy has already declared: No future plans for a RS Twingo.
Mind you, you may read Autoexpress.......

Why do these articles (and ones using similar templates like the buyers' guides) insist on opening each page in a new window/tab? Very annoying.
I know that the relentless quest for impressions means a single long page is probably too much to ask for, but surely you could make it just a little easier for us? Anyone who wants new tabs can easily trigger this themselves.

Seen this battle many times online here and on other sites. The one I'm really interested in though, is the Fiesta (or Clio, if it's worth it) against the Corsa VXR which is actually my favourite hot hatch at this present time. I guess it's been around for too long now, will there be a new model out in a year or two!?

I dont know which is more ridiculous...
A £17.5K Ford Fiesta or a £19K Clio...
The world has gone mental
I agree but, I bought my RS 200 Clio and the price was £17300 with the extras in 2010. The dealer said I could have it for £16800 but I ended up paying under £15000 at a time when its popularity was high with a waiting list so forget the list prices, haggle hard and see the prices fall especially for the Renault.A £17.5K Ford Fiesta or a £19K Clio...

It's the opposite with these two! Renault seem very reluctant to give any kind of discount on the Clio, it's hard enough even trying to drive a demo.Whereas you can pick a Fiesta ST2 up for anything from £15k...

Blimey, Renault won't sell many if any in that case ! Shame the Fiesta looks so boring. Personally, I wouldn't buy either. Whereas you can pick a Fiesta ST2 up for anything from £15k...
I'd have the Clio.... and not with the cup chassis either. I'll take a slightly softer ride and more suppleness thanks. It also looks the better of the two, though neither are what you'd call pretty. The fiesta looks far too tall from the front and that massive grill makes it look like a bottom feeder. Looks alright from the rear 3/4 though. The Clio at least looks pleasant from any angle, but it does have that french moustache thing going on at the front. Still, it sound like the Clio is the better alrounder. I can't go for a blat all the time and so something that can calm down and soothe you slightly as you trudge from A->B on our crap awful roads is good idea.
Ill take one in that awesome liquid yellow thanks! (I just wish you could option HID's on this thing. Im sure it will come in a facelift or something)
Not heard of any really serious gearbox problems as of yet. It is not a renault box, but is made by Getrag. Also I believe RS cars do receive a little more care and attention when being built.
