The Clio is seriously lardy - in an evo group test it came in at something like 1350kg !

Funny you mention the specific make & model of tyre used by the Renault, but not the Ford. Clearly this is in the public interest and nothing to do with your link-up with said tyre firm.
Actually it's because the Dunlop is a specific listed upgrade included as part of the Cup chassis package. nerd

These cars look more similar than Ford/Mercury sisters did.

Blimey, Renault won't sell many if any in that case !
Catch up at the back...... Renault already isn't shifting many.

Even current Clio 200 owners have sussed it's a dud and are migrating to the Fiesta ST.

I hope you personally are not flabby either and trim, or that would be kettle telling pot...

Thanks for feedback - anyone else got any feelings on this?

It's a production-based instinct from where we link to other articles that you might want to refer to but wouldn't necessarily want to leave the page you're on. And consistent too - any regular user of the site will know that clicking a link will, as a rule, open a new window/tab. And if you're referring to and fro personally I find it easier to have multiple tabs open.

I guess it's a case of personal browsing preferences and habits but the motivation for doing it this way is to get away from an off-putting wall of text and allow folk to navigate to the bits they want to read as and when they want.

As I say though, feedback always welcome.

Cheers,

Dan
Always disliked this set up, call it laziness but I usually don't bother clicking the other pages, particularly as you have to 'return to base' to go to the comments. One nice long scrolling page would be far better. It's even more frustrating on a tablet than a PC.

I always assumed it was a click/page impressions thing like this horrid sites that have you needlessly clicking every paragraph to see the next bit, which in my book is automatically a bad thing.

Sigh. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inflation

When is this Golden Age when cars were meant to be more affordable, exactly?

25 years ago? A 1988 review of an Astra GTE 16V puts its list price at £11,776 which This Is Money's inflation calculator says is around £26,762 in 2013 pounds.

Before you say the Astra is a different segment it's about the same size than the Clio or ST. Besides, even the Nova GTE was £8,185 in 1988, equivalent to £18,600 in 2013.

Quelle surprise!

Cars have never been more capable or better value for money. Fact.

Can we please stop the whinging whenever new car prices are mentioned?

Maybe if you only look at that, but generally I think people have got less money than they did then, houses are much more expensive, and people earn relatively less, so they seem more expensive even if according to all that stuff they aren't.

Mmmmm... Some maybe but it's just not hardcore enough for me personally. The price of the Clio is ridiculous, I didn't know it was that much, I've not shown any interest in it since it was launched due to the gearbox, weight and looks.

Our Clio 200 Cup is going in a couple of weeks when our new car arrives...

A Fiesta ST in blue with a few options (sat nav/upgraded Sony stereo, cruise control etc)

Looking forward to it. A Mountune will be on the "to do" list!

I dont think renault has ruined the car by fitting this type of gearbox but the fact its not working well enough with the engine shows they have room for improvement, surely they will improve it and the engine.

I paid just over £10k for new Fiesta ST in 2006 and just under £11k in 2008 for an ST500........

Welcome to last week. The verdict on these two has alreday been delivered ad nauseum for the Fiesta.

I prefer the looks of the Renault but would probably go for the Fiesta simply because it costs less and will doubtless have better deals. Then again, I would probably buy a used R32 instead.

Same comment from me, personally, I find it really frustrating when links open in a new window and I would much rather just be sent straight through to the next page in the same tab.

If you want to open in a new tab its ctrl + click which allows you to keep the original page open.

personal preference obviously.
100% agree with this. For me the perfect layout for long articles (e.g. buying guides) separates the different topics into logical pages, but opening in the same window. A "print article" option could then be introduced that merges the pages to a single printable page, useful for those who prefer to consume articles in this manner. Link to comments could also be present at the bottom of every page.

Echoing some of the other comments, I prefer links within a given site to open in the same window. That said I would probably have Classifieds open as new tab because it is different content all together - being able to switch between a buying guide and Classifieds is very useful.

One final thing whilst on the subject of the articles - can the pictures be arranged as a gallery, starting on the picture clicked on (like in Classifieds)? Opening to a picture in the top left corner of a blank page is vintage internet, but not particularly user friendly if viewing on a mobile device. At the very least a double tap on picture should maximise it to screen width, instead of having to pinch zoom, scroll left...

38k plus nowadays for a non-M non-convertible 3-series though eek

If you look back at 1990 prices, the BMW is now more expensive in comparison

That's great, but no-one was talking invoice cost, just list price, and who ever pays that on cars like these?

BTW the list price for both of those cars equates to about £17k today, cheaper than the equivalent Renaultsport models but that is as expected given the power and capability deficit of the older Fords.
