hehe Or in the dark, MINI! Lord knows how many times I've been fooled by that! Think it's a MINI, turns out to be a Porsche 911!
Thank god that's not just me then! It's almost as shameful as the DB7/FTO likeness. I feel pleased at an Aston is coming, and disappointed it turns out to be one if the slowest performance cars ever biggrin

Ron: Hi Chris, would you like to have a drive of a P1?

Chris: Hi Ron, fantastic. Yes please.

Ron: OK. No problem. Just one thing though, I want you to publish a video saying your beloved Porsche sucks.

Chris: Noooooooooooooooo

Chris: Hi Ron, if you care to go onto PH and see my new video, your request is done.

Ron: Christ! I didn't think you'd actually do it, I was only taking the piss. hehe you're not having a P1 now, I'm not allowing anyone so easily bought to review my cars.

But those pesky Japs just won't stay still.

7:06 on the ring for the NISMO GTR, that's just ridiculous.

I like 911s in general but the new Turbo (Or the 997 TBH ) not the most successful. Seem rather blingy to me with a rather fat bum.

Think the GTR may actually be rather cooler image wise.

The bum is rather unsightly now. GTR/TurboS in the same sentence says it all.

Excellent vid as usual. The Porsche is not really in the same class as the mecca - £145k v £240+k optioned up mecca - though almost holds its own on performance and handling, however the mecca on the look and feel is definitely in a different league. I love all that carbon fibre! If mecca dealers are truely discounting them to the price of a 991 porsche turbo S them I'm in. Arrgh ... wait the mecca is only a two seater. damn!

Note to Ron: Add rear steering to the mecca and then I suspect you will completely blow away the 911

Note to Chris: lets add the GTR Nismo and the reference 458 for a mega shoot out smile

Anyone else notice the reg of the 12C says "FWD"? Looks anything but front wheel drive based on those drifts!

Think I'd still prefer the 911 out of the two.

I had the (mis)fortune of discovering this video whilst on a train... It wouldn't load so I consoled myself with reading the comments.
From this I had a preconception of what the video would be like.
I've now watched it.
Oh my word, it appears many people ignored 90% of a great vid! Loads of great content in there, the drag race was a bit of a fun footnote but maybe YouTube was playing up earlier as it appears this was the only bit some people saw (and got angry about!)

For me, the 991tt seems to have got my attention now where the 997 left me cold, but I'd have the GT3... Interesting that Evo tested the 12C vs the 991gt3 and the lap times went to Stuttgart! Both mega cars, I'd love either...

Not sure I like the look of those either, but the GTR's bang for buck is tempting.

Jesus. LOL

A few of you really do spend way too much time talking about price and tiny differences in performance.

In the real world are you ever likely to launch these cars off the line in a race ?

Buy what you want and put your hand bags away.

We all love Testosterone fuelled debate but this one stinks of Oestrogen!

However, I know I can get a Porsche warranty for 9 years - not sure about the 12C, and I can imagine parts/repairs would be expensive.
Fair point. SLRs, whilst not the same prod numbers as 12C and not the same price point, have not held their residuals as well as you might hope (compare to Carrera GT) Also seen a fair bit about SLR being a bit pricey to maintain which won't help (and I like SLR)

SLR (newer but slightly higher miles)

I do wonder how McLaren will do over the next 10 years now they are aiming to be a more volme producer. How will they deal with "Goodwill" contributions if an engine goes pop or the suspension fails expensively a year out of warranty? I'll forgive them to a degree the teething probs with the sat navs at launch, but time will tell on the other stuff.

Oh dear the VW shows its true nature. 4WD so it does not kill you and to make it handle properly. The engine still sounds like a sewing machine, it has a huge arse and even though they have been making them for 50 years it gets trounced by a car made in Woking, started @5 years ago. Not to mention that the McLaren was a spider as well.

Time, Nice but Dim will be so annoyed.

Well done McLaren. They make 2 cars and both trounce VW's sports car division. They just need to win a few F1 races again.
Now I accept that nearly all of your post was OTT fanboy ste. 991 was hardly "trounced" and banging on about VW's identifies you as someone that listens to Clarkson too much. BUT

The bit in bold gripes. McLaren Automotive has NOT been around for only 5 years. It was circa 03/04 that McLaren CARS became McLaren Automotive. (Part of a major rebranding at McLaren "Applied Tech, Electronics, Racing etc) The SLR was made by Automotive. And obviously Cars have a fairly good track record stretching back to "that" conversation at "that" airport in 88. It's not some recent start up.

ETA
I'd have neither. Something with a Porsche GT badge please. Horse for courses smile

Lovely cars both of them. I'd take the 911 if I was to use one everyday and the Mac if only a weekend car.
Ps any chance we can have a kindergarten section on PH for a few posters??

around the saschenring , the 991 turbo s (on standard production road tyres) , was faster than both the mclaren spyder and coupe both with 625bhp (on slicks) , evo also run a test where the gt3 991 was faster than the mclaren , and Porsche claims the turbo s is faster than the gt3 on a track. On a twisty road the turbo s would disappear from the 12c , same with the f12 and aventador , the only performance advantage these cars have over the 911 is in a 1 mile drag race and unless you go to organised drag races , you're never gonna see the performance advantage over the 911 turbo.Sure they all sound better and are head turners , but its that attention and drama that makes people buy the 911 turbo in my opinion.
