The problem is a 160bhp VTEC is compared against things like the VAG 1.8T engine, because it has a similar power output.
I'm not sure I've ever heard/ seen them compared? Not much to compare really apart from the fact they both have 4 cylinders. Potential for cheap gains from the VAG but stick a turbo on that VTEC and you have monster.
I went for a ride in a dc2 integra type-r years ago. It's still a 1.8 petrol car with mild cams pulling only 1160kg ish! It has more than enough torque for any normal driving situation even in top gear they aren't rubbish only a little less torque below 2000rpm ish than a regular 1.8 petrol and a little flat just before VTEC.
The later K series cars have a seamless VTEC engagement. It's a less aggressive, earlier engagement with no 'flat' spot. Apparently the B series cars deliberately had a slightly later changeover for no technical reason but because Honda wanted people to be able to feel the VTEC engagement!

I adore the CRX. Problem is like most Hondas of that vintage rust can be a problem. They are so damn mechanically and electronically indestructible that the only thing that kills them are accidents or the elements
The CRX is supposed to have an amazing chassis, I'm pretty certain they share the double wishbone setup from the Civic
Yep, proper double wishbone set-up. Mine had no rust apart from a 50p-sized spot of rust on the sunroof that I had fixed a week before it was squashed....The CRX is supposed to have an amazing chassis, I'm pretty certain they share the double wishbone setup from the Civic

No-one has mentioned the CRX on this thread so far, so I will. Great little 8300rpm redlined 1.6l VTEC engine - 40+MPG on motorway cruises, and pretty nippy fast fun on B-roads when conditions allowed. Compact, light hatch/coupe, with a decent-ish boot - perfect for a single person or possibly a couple with great seats - my preferred car throughout the 90's. I would still have one if I hadn't been squashed on the M25 by a watercress lorry........

What are they like, I have this idea in my head that the wheelbase is too short, hence why its not rated nearly as highly as the DC2?
Wouldn't be surprised if it's a similar but I could be wrong. The EK9 wheelbase is actually longer than the DC2s.Also not as focused as the DC2 from factory nor came with the B18c.

I really, REALLY enjoyed my DC2 when I had it.
However, I wouldn't have another one. My tastes have changed, and to be honest, cars like this just bring out the hooligan in me more often than would be considered appropriate. Basically, it just made me want to drive like a bellend all of the time because all of the power, noise and drama was north of 6,000 rpm, and it was addictive. The car basically didn't really feel anything special unless you drove it like that, and that is becoming increasingly hard to do.
But I have to say, it is far and away my favourite ever 4-pot engine and gearbox, absolutely fantastic to listen to and use.
The EP3 I drove a few months prior to getting the DC2 left me very cold, however, undoubtedly capable, but it really did just feel like a bland shopping trolley 90% of the time, and that last 10% just couldn't measure up to the DC2s all round ability.
I loved the DC2 I had too, but was wary of the looks people cast at me as I screamed past them. The one thing that I didn't like was the Recaros. Don't get me wrong, they're lovely to look at and admire - but my god are they tight around the hips! Always felt like I had to 'adjust' my bits when I got in! Or maybe I'm just fat...However, I wouldn't have another one. Actually the K20 has this 'flat' spot too. As do all DOHC VTEC engines from the factory. It's not actually flat, just flattens out a bit before the 2nd cam comes on.Seany88 said:

It's not just you.I have a peachy ass and it still aches after about 90mins in the seat!

I found the seats dead comfortable, among the best I've ever had in any car.Mind you, I'm with you on it being a rather "attention grasping" car, mine was actually vandalised several times, and even one instance of road rage when someone repeatedly brake tested me for no reason at all before blocking the road and getting out of the car, all because I approached from behind at speed on a dual carriageway, and then slowed down behind him for the sliproad, but I wasn't tailgating or being aggressive so I can only assume this tt didn't like the look of the car. I also had a group of chavs threaten to do me in so they could steal it. I don't miss that kind of attention, I've got to be honest.
But I am so glad I owned it, and I'm not sure it would put me off still, so that should tell you what I thought of it!

I'm really sorry to hear that it was squashed. Do you have any pics to share? We've had some great Honda Pr0n on this thread but no CRX's
I'd love an original CRX very much , but I'd settle for a Del Sol B16
The Honda Vtec engines are truly some of the best small capacity NA engines ever put into a car, they love to rev and reward you the more you push them.
I've had 3 CRX's, and the current one for 8 years, and drive an Accord daily. The CRX handles like a more raw DC2, especially when stripped out with a B18C in the engine bay.

Probably the coolest car Honda made, NSX aside.I've had 3 CRX's, and the current one for 8 years, and drive an Accord daily. The CRX handles like a more raw DC2, especially when stripped out with a B18C in the engine bay.
