I was looking back at some old photos and came across this of my old 1992 Metro GTi 16v MPI. Not a ground breaking car by any standard but my 1st taste of performance, considering it was a Metro I found it pretty robust doing over 40k in 3yrs...and I was not easy on the mechanicals.
Thing is here are only 63 left registered on the road (according to how many left), its a real shame and I would buy one to keep....if I had the space and any were actually for sale!
It got me thinking what sort of cars of the last 20yrs are going to to he scrap heap in the sky never to be seen on the road, will the humble Metro make classic status, or is it likely to die a death with no-one there at the funeral? How many other cars that you have have loved will suffer the same fate?
My mate restored one and has a second in need off attention.Thing is here are only 63 left registered on the road (according to how many left), its a real shame and I would buy one to keep....if I had the space and any were actually for sale!

Mk 2 Lagunas seem to have become rare - I actually quite like the estate (tourer?) but I just never see them around anymore. Has their terrible reputation caused a premature demise or is it just my lack of observation?
Maybe you live in a more affluent area, but I still see quite a few of these - and there are quite a lot on Autotrader, too. I know 'cos I was toying with getting one. They do have a terrible rep though.Negative Creep said:

Renault Safrane, not that there were many in the first place.
I was once approached by a rather shady bloke in a car park offering me some keys and saying there was a free one parked around the corner. Needless to say I declinedRealSquirrels said:

I've seen one of those more recently (last year) than I've seen many of the cars in this thread. Others include: Vauxhall Senators/Omegas, Ford Granada/Scorpio, Peugeot 205/309/405/605/306/406, Alfa 145/146/155/166, SAAB 9000, Citroen Saxo/Xsara/Xantia/XM, 140 series S Class Merc, the first C class, 190E, BMW Z3s, E36 and E46 Compacts, Audi 80/Coupé/Cabriolet/Convertible, 100 or first two generations of A6, first A8, A4s getting scarce.

The Fiesta RS Turbo. It was rare as hens teeth when i was searching for one about 15 years ago but now there are only 211 registered in the UK and half of them will be rusty or badly modified.
I never did end up finding a good one and went for a mint XR2i in the end.
A girlfriend at the time had a Fiesta RS 1800 - rarer still with only 493 built in total.I never did end up finding a good one and went for a mint XR2i in the end.

Only 63! I remember seeing one every day when I walked to my primary school until one day it was a burnt out wreck. I seem to remember that the car that replaced it became a burnt out wreck about a year later.Thing is here are only 63 left registered on the road (according to how many left), its a real shame and I would buy one to keep....if I had the space and any were actually for sale!

I nominate the Vauxhall Nova. I saw one a while ago and it took me quite by surprise because I hadn't seen one for ages.

Was just thinking the same, surprisingly thin on the ground for a once numerous, relatively recent car. I suppose expensive electrical failures will have rendered most of them scrap. Edited by CtrlAltDel on Monday 20th January 02:30
