It must be so, so rare in that unrestored state.Ad mentions, "The car is fitted with an electric primer fuel pump as well as the mechanical one so the battery's not flattened when starting it after a long period of inactivity."
My old Alfa would have really benefited from one of those.

For the duration of this and the next two volumes I'll be pondering how to buy an R53 MCS without anyone who lives in my house noticing.
Massive long time lurker of this thread, taken to volume 16, but picked up my 4k r53 MCS on Saturday! This has meant getting my own insurance, as I have been driving a company car for 4 years, and learning they are 280 quid to tax, this thread has a lot to answer for!

Any thread experience of the B5 S4? I see a lot of high mile example (pushing 200k) so I guess the engines must be pretty reliable? I don't really know too much about them, but on the face of it seem to tick a few boxes for me.
Engines are complex. Cambelts are an engine-out job AFAIK. Turbo failures (dentist drills) are alarmingly frequent in some cases. Loads of boost pipework that can be leak-prone.Represent fantastic value for money if you've got a good sized war chest for servicing and repairs and pick the right one, utterly ruinous if you don't.
The auto (tiptronic?) is atrocious.

That is my old car. I moved it on at about 70k miles, it was super clean at that time as you say cloth is much rarer than leather & hides the miles far better. That hasn't cost much in depreciation since I sold in early 2009, just as everyone had their knickers in a twist about the credit crunch & didn't want used barges. They make a great all weather all rounder & offer great pace for the money but I just didn't gel with it. They're perfectly capable of raping your wallet, ingesting the turbos is the worst that can happen but have a look through RS246.com for more info.
Thanks both. Very useful. Already been poking round 246 (as I have for a while, due to various thoughts around different S and RS models over the past few months!).melvster said:
Massive want for the 106. Always wanted one of these (but I remember the pedals being very close together on the mk1 106s, I assume the mk2 would be no different?)Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
