One thing that does put me off the car stuff is the endless questioning and debate about how cars are paid for, which is the single most irrelevant thing I can think of on a motoring forum.

No, but no one, gives a st how much cars cost, how they were paid for or 'funded' and certainly not how that particular person can afford them.

Other forums don't seem to have these sort of constant 'money issues' like PH.
This is very true, but there are a lot of posters on PH that for some reason do care, I find it very strange there are those that want to tell you they paid CASH and those that want to belittle people that lease/PCP.

It's weird, remember all the bhing around CH buying a 911 4.0RS, Christ I thought the servers were going to melt!

Absolutely.

That whole "how does CH afford a 4.0RS?" thing was one the most retarded wastes of internet bandwidth ever.

It turned what should have been a great car discussion into some stupid financial debate.
That thread pretty much summed up the worst of PH's money obsession to me.
CH should be given a medal for having the balls to drive the cars he does. God knows how he manages it but manage he does and I'll bet he grins like a cheshire cat every time he opens the door.

Maybe the finance aspect comes into it more on PH as it has such a broad spectrum of posters. Most other forums tend to be more specific and will generally attract a lesser range. You're not going to find a corsa driver and a lambo owner arguing on drift works.

Unfortunately PH is full of people buying into hype and spouting other peoples opinions and making comments like you can't afford to have an opinion.

I've spent about 4 hours today just wasting petrol with the stereo off and the windows open, giggling like a fool and revelling in the noise and drama. Unfortunately the car I did it in is only worth about 13k so I can't have been enjoying myself as much as my neighbour in his 30k diesel volvo.
I can't help but see a little bit of reverse snobbery in that last line though, but well done on wasting the fuel! thumbup

I just wish we could stop bhing/bragging about money whether it's how much or how little they cost, both are annoying and nothing to do with the enjoyment of our cars.

Mind you it does add a little colour to the proceedings!

Well you see I'm not sure about that.

I'm a member of a couple of car groups on Facebook and you rarely/never see any arguing over money there if someone posts a Corsa worth £1200 they get the same respect as someone who posts their £30k Skyline, which was indeed what got posted by a young lad a few nights ago and not one person commented on the rather hefty value, they merely asked questions about the car like excited children, which is how it should be.

Go to anywhere like Stanceworks or Players and there will be people discussing £30k+ custom air cooled 911's alongside knackered old Audi's on air-ride worth £2000 without a mention of how a 28 year old 'kid' with hipster hair and tattoos is driving a classic £30k 911.

But I do take your point that maybe PH has such a massively broad spectrum these days that daft willy waving money arguments are inevitable?

No reverse snobbery at all. He is not a petrolhead at all, I am. He uses his car for work, kids, shopping. I love mine and drive it for the hell of it. I have a diesel car for work, kids, shopping. Both of mine together are worth about the same as his. I don't think he is wrong. He has bought what he needs and is happy. He thinks I am mad though.

I did think the same as I was writing it. I love on PH when the young guys post their first car and it might not be that exciting to us but to them it is their pride and joy. Usually someone on here slates them though. I remember taking my first car (a 2.0 mk2 mondeo shed) to have a dent taken out and the guy told me that it wasn't worth it and asked with a raised eyebrow if this was my pride and joy. It was, loved that car. Some people forget though.

To some people being seen as though they are having more fun in a car than you is much more important than actually having fun.

In my experience, I have often found that people who bang on about having lots of money, are usually the complete opposite.

Go home Vlad, you are making yourself look like a complete and utter idiot.

UK taxes and the culture of envy and fear seems to have stomped us into a world of blandness.

An old Chinese proverb states "the nail which stands tallest is the first to be hammered flat"

Sounds about right to me

anyone who has £30k to spend on a car has far more of a clue than you.
...
I also detect a lot of bitterness in your posts - very telling.
Ah, wow. You went there?

Pulling the "richer than you" card about a £30k car that costs buttons on finance/lease? That's pretty special...

What's happening to PH? It's all about finance, leasing and slagging off any new car that comes out, however many questions it answers.
Is anyone like me in that if they see anything "interesting" they smile and appreciate it; be it a super plain looking Audi with a subtle 4.2 engine badge or a winged up fast rally rep?

We have a cracking choice of cars at the moment, many at the more or less affordable end of the market yet all we get is "it's too ugly, it's too dull, it's just a Beetle, it's too Playstation, it's too much of a handful, it weighs 3kg too much, blah blah blah"

There are some proper enthusiasts buried in amongst the waffling goons but they seem to be getting edged out.

Let's have more threads on the fun of driving, appreciate good cars new, old and in between, cut the elitist nonsense some (especially M car owners…) and bring back a little more smiles.

There's an overused cliche in surfing - the best surfer is the one having the most fun. I think this applies directly to driving too. We picked up our M135i today after it went in (at two weeks old!) for a bit of paint correction and I just grinned all the way home - the noise, the alertness of the chassis, the grip, the power; all hilarious fun for me and the family.

Come on guys (for there are very few girls), cheer up - It's Spring soon; drier roads, cool air; ideal driving conditions!!

Can't say I'm surprised to see how this has turned out, the man is an utter buffoon.

I think the impressive thing is the amount of forums he uses and the staggering post count, and for the ones I have seen it doesn't take too long for the true personality to shine through.

They usually are when the sole purpose of the OP is to tell everyone what car he has, and how poor everyone else is, without the faintest realisation that most are smart enough to see through this.
